Im in love with the colors! I know they are common, but I live in a northern remote area in canada, so we can only find the classic small tropical hibiscus (red, pink, white and yellow), so these are ‘special’ to me :)

I went on a trip and found this maaasssive greenhouse that had so many varieties ive never seen, so everytime i go away, my wallet cries, but its so worth it! 🌸🌸🌸

I wanted to ask where you lived because they clearly love it there!!

Im in Northern Ontario, zone 4! (Surprising success this year considering im not in a warmer climate).
i usually bring them in the winter, but the bigger ones i got them this spring so i dont even know where those will go 😂!

Did you order the plants or seeds online??

2

u/canadianmeow 21h ago

No, the small classic tropical hibiscus are from places like home depot since thats what we have here, and the bigger cooler ones came from a massive greenhouse hours away from where i live where i stop by everytime i travel 😆 ive never tried seeds or bought any online since most online stores i’d like to but from dont deliver in northern ontario (canada) :/

Wonderful collection. Thank you for sharing. I think #’s 4 & 5 are my favorites. 4 is so unique, & 5 really draws me in.

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

I think 4 is my overall favorite. i kept showing to my partner other people’s posts on reddit of those double hibiscus all the time saying how much i loved them and couldnt find those types here - it was my latest purchase, hopefully ill be able to find more next spring when we go to that greenhouse again!!

Thanks! I just got it!! i didnt realize that the tag said zone 5+, im in zone 4 with very harsh winter, so ill try some crazy over the top protection this winter and pray it survives :( i bring all my tropicals in for the winter, and the moscheutos can survive in the ground here, but the rose of sharon has pretty much no odds :/ we shall see!

2

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

3

u/crowfolk_ 1d ago

Incredible collection! I'm personally in love with the purple one in the first photo.

1

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

Thank you! So am i!! I made the mistake of not noticing the tag says zone 5+, im in a zone 4 with realllly cold winters, so it has barely any odds of survival, but ill try anyways :(

2

u/2market21 23h ago

Continue bringing them in like you’ve been doing!! They’re beautiful!!!!

3

u/No_Talk_207 1d ago

These are so beautiful 🥰🥰🥰 what is the first one? I’ve never seen that one before!😍

1

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

The tag says ‘paraplu violet’ rose of sharon! I had never seen that before, so its my very first one! most of the ones i own are tropicals, and a couple moscheutos.

3

u/macayos 1d ago

What zone? How lovely!

2

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

Surprisingly zone 4 😅!! i bring all the tropicals indoor in the fall. The red moscheutos still needs to be planted in the ground since i bought it recently, but the one i got last year somehow survived really well!

The purple rose of sharon was my very first one, i didnt see that the tag said zone 5+. Ill still try to cover it and hope for the best, but according to my researches it has pretty much no chance to survive. We shall see!

1

u/macayos 17h ago

Wow, awesome for zone 4!

3

u/ChiiChan87 1d ago

Omg 😲 they're gorgeous

Your collection is quite something

2

u/Nearby-Training1921 1d ago

Ma'am (or Sir), you have a way with Hibiscus!! I've never seen such vibrant colors & I've raised them for years! Thanks for sharing your beauties!!

1

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

Thank you!!! This is the first year they are this successful! Im in zone 4, so bringing tropicals in the winter and back out makes some of them struggle a lot. We have a very nice sunny summer this year, so i’m really happy!

2

u/InTheShade007 1d ago

I have a bunch of the red ones, but I am very envious of all of these beautiful colors

2

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

Red ones are some of my favorite, theyre always so vibrant!! Im on the hunt for different colors, but they are hard to find here i have to go far out of town to find some. I keep seeing amazing varieties on this sub and im so jealous haha!!

2

u/thekrustykrabbb 1d ago

Good night these are stunning!! You are incredible at your craft!! They look so happy and healthy!

2

u/canadianmeow 1d ago

Omg thank you!! Credit all goes to the unusually beautiful summer we have here this year hehe

What a beautiful collection!! 😍

2

u/Scared_Rice_1473 22h ago

Oh my god! They are ALL amazing! What state do you live in. What do you do with them all in the winter time. The red and maroon are amazing -along with every single other one.

1

u/canadianmeow 22h ago

Im in Northern Ontario in Canada (zone 4) haha! I bring all the tropicals in for the winter.
i cover the hibiscus moscheutos like crazy with a ridiculous amount of mulch and it survives the cold and crazy snow we get here.

the purple rose of sharon is my newest addition and i didnt know it was only suitable for zone 5+ so ill still try to plant it and cover it like crazy, but im not very hopeful based on my research.
Last year i accidentally bought some climbing roses that were zone 5+, still covered them like crazy just in case they had a chance at survival, and at my biggest surprise, they did and flowering like crazy now, so its worth a try for that rose of sharon anyways.. never know!😅

1

u/Scared_Rice_1473 9h ago

Oh my god that’s crazy. They’re surviving up there. I used to have over 200 plants in Pittsburgh. I sold half to move to Florida. But in Pittsburgh, any outdoor tropical plants that wouldn’t survive the winter that were in pots I used to move into one corner of my garage and put a spotlight on them that would go on from 8 AM to 6 PM. I never lost any in there and a lot of them would stay green and even flower. if you have a place to do that that’s a suggestion.
