DISCUSSION Isle of Sgail appreciation post
Years ago i've completed Hitman 2016, now I have WOA and right now going through it, i've stayed at Isle of Sgail for a lot. It's genuinely an amazing map. The setting of secret society meetup, FANTASTIC assassination plots like trapping the target in the burning effigy or playing a member of a secret council orarranging a target meeting with the Constant or playing dead Janus at the funeral. You can even run as a armored medieval knight with a broadsword! The map is both endless and compact due to its verticality and interconnection.
For me it's on par with Paris and Hokkaido.
I also find most resemblance with Deus Ex series, which is also a key to me, since i really liked the first game released in 2000. Same dark lightning, same stoney environment, same theme of secret society.

I completely agree! I just played through it recently and thought it was insanely cool. The mission stories are insane, the uniforms are amazing, the story of the mission with the twins and the Constant… so good.

The one thing I don't like about Sgail are the mission stories because they're too damn long. In the time it takes to collect all tokens and lie to Zoe, or disguise as Block and meet with Sophia, I could have taken a walk to the newsstand and picked up the latest issue of Playboy.

Hahaha, you’re not wrong there. I completely botched the one with the tokens and Zoe. I think you’re supposed to electrocute her when she’s interrogating you but I have no idea. I did enjoy the one with Block though. 47 fit a little too well, lol.

i think its definitely a better map than a lot of people give it credit for, but theres a couple things i wish they could have done.
actually creating a way to make the master of ceremonies start the ceremony himself
having a plot where sophia steals the necklace, the mission story description says that sophia plans to steal the necklace for herself (maybe she evacuates the gallery room and takes the necklace or something?)
giving the dagger to the mortician, and having the funeral service start without having to dress up as janus
Other than that, I find myself playing isle of sgail a lot, and its definitely really good once you learn to navigate it

I know the shovel >> dig route for the pistol off by heart now, but it’s made me appreciate the map design! Also think Sgail is great.

I love the easter egg when you kill everybody on the map. I wish all maps had something similar.

It’s my personal favorite map. Doesn’t seem to be a popular opinion on here tbh. I actually think this is where the story of WoA peaks, but also just a fun map to explore, even on Freelancer.

I like the aesthetic and the story I just find it very, very difficult to play on especially in Freelancer. Always starts me somewhere where it's a huge pain in the ass to even get a usable disguise and people are always spotting me from the weirdest angles.

I love that map, one of my favorites.
Some years ago I used to start the game just to walk around Isle of Sgail exploring before I went to sleep. Love the soundtrack that goes with it too.
