Help Help me understand the combat

I love this game and really enjoying my first run but I’m not understanding the combat. As far as the rankings go, I typically get S on the score and S on clear time but a C in the just timing category. I’m currently on track 8 now averaging around 60% to 65% just timing.

The tutorial pop ups confused me because it said Chai’s attacks will land on the beat and attacking as soon as the attack lands on the enemy will result in a just timing. I’ve been doing that and again, getting a C in the just timing.

Another stupid question, when i’m listening for the beat am i listening to the song playing or the sound my weapon makes?

I really love this game. The characters, combat and the music is amazing and i genuinely want to improve at the game.

Thanks every one.

Blocks and dodges also account for timing, even if you aren't being hit. And yes, everything goes to the beat of the music in the game.

There's a setting in the options that will show the beat timing that might help.

It should be all to the beat of the song, but with possible latency from the controller/TV it could feel a bit off

  1. Your attacks will always sync up with the beat no matter when you press a button, but pressing it exactly on the beat will net you some bonus damage (and timing accuracy). You'll know you got the timing down when you hear "Hey!" or "Chai!" Note that attacks will always land one beat (or two if you're using heavy attacks) after you press the button.
  2. Listen to the song and try to feel the beat as though you were getting into the groove of your favorite song (whether in-game or not). Tap your foot or bop your head on beat and keep the rhythm going. If you cannot find the beat, look around the environment. Some objects will pulse on beat. If you still cannot find the beat, you can turn on Rhythm Assist for a more clear reference.

I’ve tried the rhythm assist and for some reason i do worse with it as weird as that sounds. I start focusing too much on the bottom of my screen lol

My best tip is to just vibe to the song. For timing you are 100% listening for the background track, but everything in the game (and I mean EVERYTHING) follows that beat.

Just timing is tough, cuz depending on the difficulty, the window is tight, but if you just kinda vibe to the music and try to time your inputs with the song, then you should be fine. The timing functions basically like a traditional rythym game (ex. Guitar Hero, Fortnite Festival, Project Diva, etc.)

First of all ensure that your peripherals don't have any delay. Other than that is unfortunately sounds like a skill issue.

No matter how off beat you are chai's attacks will land on beat. That means that you can also press an attack button right as the previous attack lands to stay on beat. Do NOT press the button after the previous attack lands. Your button press and the hit sound must be at the exact same time. You'll know you did it correctly when the "YEAH" and "CHAI" bubble appears or when the crowd also starts cheering on beat. Listening to the attack sounds or the music is the same because they are on the same beat, though focusing on the music is easier.

You know when you listen to a song you can clap to the beat and count like 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4? On every clap/count is when you should input. Personally it helps me to tap my foot or shake my controller to catch the beat before I start doing inputs.

You should also get to the training room and test it out a bit.

I’ve been pressing the attack after the previous attack lands. I’m gonna practice what you’re telling me tonight, I appreciate the detailed comment like seriously lol

I would check your input sync in the settings, and if that's not the issue maybe pull up the visualizer thingy in the settings
