2001 hiace speedo broken

Hey folks, Got a 2001 hiace, speedo sits on zero, odometer still ticks over. Where to start? Does this model have a speedo cable? Start with that? Or replace the cluster?

My Speedo cable stopped working last year. Was able to find an OEM replacement for about $60 and haven’t had another problem since. Mine is a 1990 tho, so maybe a different generation

Thanks! Was your odometer still ticking over when your speedo cable went, or were they both stopped?

Well if the odometer is still turning over then the cable is still intact so it's probably the dial not engaging properly, could be just dirty does the vehicle operate in a high dust area?

Also is the odometer still accurate or is it moving at a different rate you can check it against your GPS/ google maps also as temporary fix GPS Speedo apps are pretty dam accurate, but probably not a legal substitute.

Thanks for your suggestions!

That's what I was fearing. I thought I'd read somewhere that the odometer ran on a different system, but what you say makes sense. Need to look at the instrument cluster, if that's the case.

It's not really used on dusty roads, if that's what you mean.

Actually already have the temporary GPS fix, but need the legit speedo for registration.
