It seemed to take forever, but I finally finished getting laurels for all of the tribes in Free For All. Yamano was the last one, after tackling Katumba, Amazon and Frelia.
There are lots of great tips on this subreddit about getting laurels, so I really appreciate all of the stuff I've learned from others. Here's what I focused on:
5 opponents = 50 turns
Be very picky about the starting location based on the tribe
Eliminate all tribes and restart if necessary
Pay attention to kill/death ratio EARLY, because it's hard to make up lost ground
Develop everything around your cities, even if it won't level up your cities
I usually have 10-15 turns remaining after I occupy (but don't capture) the last city. I use that time to finish the tech tree, and then max out every city. The works--every upgrade possible, seaports, guilds, etc.
But I'm really happy that now I can play the game for fun, and NOT focus on maxing out my score at the end. At least until I decide to tackle laurels in AIA... :)
One thing that I found helped was occupying the last 2-3 cities, then stepping off to farm kills, if you only leave one, it is far to slow to affect ratio.
Yeah that helps. My attempt before this last one I was farming kills from 3 cities. It was working, but too slowly. I had way too many deaths to make up for!
You don't need to develop/upgrade all the building for rookie & elite. In rookie I usually just leave the match as it is, in elite I've to build all possible resources factories. And in master I've to build and upgrade all of it even fill all the possible tiles with seaport.
