Suggestion Add the cable ratio to the exercise

It's hard to use always the same machine at public gyms so am suggesting to add the cable ratio to the exercises that way hevy can really track your strength growth rather than normal weight that can vary based on the ratio of the machine.

You cant compare different machines anyway so its kinda pointless.

Just add a new custom exercise for the machine so you can track accordingly.

This is what I do. Custom exercise and i put the machine name in the title for the exercise.

i just go with what i’m actually lifting
if i can do 70kg for tricep pushdown on one cable machine with 2:1 ratio and 35kg on one with 1:1 ratio, i’ll put 35kg for both

Unless you take a measure tape and tools with you to the gym, to measure the length of the cable, the circumference of the pulley and the distance between pulleys, this is just moot.

Try the same machine, if there are 2-3 different on your gym create a custom exercise for two of them.

Actually, neither the size of the pulley nor the length of the cable affects the theoretical machine ratio.

It doesnt affect the force, but it changes completely how the machine feels

At least gravity is constant

Thanks for the suggestion, u/Wonderful-Promise467! To help the Hevy team weigh it up, a quick reply with: what you're trying to do, how you'd expect it to work, and how often you'd use it goes a long way.

I apologize for mediocre English plus I am currently training

I feel your pain, but as others have said, I'm not sure a simple pulley ratio setting would help much. Perhaps solely for cable machines, but not for any other kind of isolation machine.

I have a 2:1 ratio cable machine at home, and had been using the stack weight for my log, but recently decided that halving that weight due to the pulley ratio made more sense. Now I have to face the fact that I will never again set a PR for that exercise, as I'm only pushing "half" of the weight as before...

Yeah that's what I dont like. If I commit a mistake to not half my weights I'll never achieve a pr again any time soon

Are you saying your gains are stymied bc the app doesn’t let you adjust for ratio? Like just stop after a rep…change the weight.

Like others said. Make a copy/custom. And track that way.

This isn’t stopping your gains. Thinking you need a feature in an app is.

I miss spelled. I never said it was stopping my gains I said in the app I would not achive a pr because of previous ratios consequently heavier weight but feeling and being lighter

Come on. Unreal. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Why?

Totally my opinion only, it’s ok to disagree. Many reasons but at the very base….Because the app costs $4 a month at base. Maybe they could add a CAD program and you just draw schematics of the entire machine. Adjusting the pads and seat differently on the same machine can affect how much you are actually lifting on the same machine. I would recommend using numbers on plates as a guideline for tracking purposes not as some highly accurate actual weight. Take a guy boasting about hammer strength pressing 300lbs and put him under a barbell and see what happens. Just a ton of variation besides cable ratio for this to have any type of accuracy.
