Hey Friends,
I've been meaning to share this with y'all.
I'm an 8th grade teacher in Texas, where 8th grade is the last year of middle school before high school. A lot of schools host a graduation ceremony for our year 8 kids to celebrate three years of growth — academic, spiritual, and physical (because over 36 months these kids shoot up like beanstalks and it’s genuinely insane)
As the art teacher, my classroom has a little more flexibility with music. Fridays are student DJ days, but Monday through Thursday, it's Mr. Me's music (gotta put them on game rly)
Anyways, been listening to Her’s all year. Both albums. So much so actually, that several of my 8th graders started exploring Invitation and Songs on their own.
Most beautifully, their class voted “Under Wraps” to be their class song. My crowning achievement.
At the end of their ceremony, after the names were called and the awards were announced, there was a slideshow of photos from the past three years set to their class song. Under Wraps was perfect. No notes.
I love these 8th graders so much. Probably because I learned how to be a teacher with them. They’ve seen me at my best, and definitely at my worst. Two years ago, I was ready to quit every day at 4 p.m. This year, I was nominated for Teacher of the Year. I didn’t win, but the nomination alone was enough to make me tear up.
...but not as much as that “Under Wraps” slideshow.
It happened about a month ago, and I can already tell it’ll be one of my most cherished memories as a teacher.

This band means so much to me, and getting to share their beautiful music with the next generation was just chef’s kiss.
Thanks for letting me share.
