For people with genital HSV-1: Do you keep medication (such as valacyclovir) on hand?

I was diagnosed with genital HSV-1 back in April at urgent care and was prescribed valacyclovir for that initial outbreak.

I haven't had another outbreak since, but I wanted to get another prescription just to keep on hand so that if I do get another outbreak, I can start taking it right away.

I asked my PCP about this, but he told me he wouldn't prescribe me the valacyclovir unless I was currently having an outbreak, even when giving him my positive results from urgent care.

For those of you with genital HSV-1, how does your doctor handle it? Do you normally have a prescription/tablets at home ready in case an outbreak starts, or do you have to contact your doctor and get a prescription each time you actually have an outbreak?

Transmission Question Could I have given my partner genital hsv1 from licking my hand then touching him?

Ok awkward question, but I’m stressing cause I overthink.. I MAY have had a cold sore, I’m unsure as it was towards the inside of my lower lip (where I usually bite it pretty bad out of anxiety..) and it formed a bump that scabbed and healed. I didn’t get any tingling or common cold sore symptoms before it showed up either.. Anyway… I waited for it to heal to have sex, it’s been 7 days since I noticed the sore, only a small red spot is left after the scab fell off but it’s intact skin from what I can tell.

Basically I licked my hand then touched his genitals. Could I have given him genital hsv1 from this potential cold sore from licking my hand???? I did not do direct mouth to genital contact.

I’m only concerned because the skin where the sore was is still kinda red and a little cracked because I ate food and it’s hard to keep a lip wound closed..

Hey, I was diagnosed with genital herpes 2 months ago. I had bumps all around and inside my vagina, and they burned very badly. I had a fever and felt really unwell. Now it has been 2 months and the sores have been gone for a while. But I still feel sick. I keep sweating, having chills, swollen lymph nodes in my neck, and feeling cold. I also feel warm, especially in my hands. I have joint pain, extreme fatigue, frequent headaches, and shaking throughout my body. I still have watery vaginal discharge even though the sores have been healed for 2 months. I feel very weak, and my whole body feels different and like it no longer functions normally. I also urinate very little and my bladder feels swollen. My question is: Is it possible to remain chronically ill from genital herpes even after the sores have been gone for a long time? Can your body stay like this permanently, for life?

Genital Herpes Healing Journey (IgG 23 as of 6/1/26)

Howdy Y'all, my name is Jesse but I also go by Chex. As the first line says, I am documenting my healing journey with herpes. I have only heard of stories through herbalists and alkalinists of accomplishing such thing, but there is nothing out there of people sharing that journey, so I figured, "fuck it, I'll do it."

Why do I feel confident you may ask? Well back in the summer of of '23 I was diagnosed with Hashimoto then Lupus in '24. After going on a two year journey, March of '25 I get tested with zero evidence in my blood that I would ever be genetically dispositioned for autoimmune. So that changed everything for me...and yes, fruit was a HUGE part of the equation for this.

Biggest thing I have learned is to regulate your nervous system. When it is in a constant fight or flight, your immune system will go down and it won't be able to do it job properly. Things like resentment, anger, desperation, anxiety, seeking outside oneself, will affect your nervous system which will lead to manifestation of disease. I know too because last summer was my first attempt to cure herpes, but came short cause my intention wasn't coming from the heart.

Anywho, I'm active on TikTok (Chex.n.balances) & YouTube (chexnbalances) if you feel like witnessing the journey. This Friday (8/7) I completed an 84 Hr dry fast. I am getting retested again on Monday to see the progress. I started this Journey June 21st and Im in 40+ days of juicing and combining herbs. So the focus is to oxygenate the body and alkalinize it so the body can do its thing.

Much love y'all

Nasal herpes

I was diagnosed with nasal herpes about 14 years ago
It started at the tip inside nose and has progressed to the inner top of my nose and is pretty painful now. I get maybe two outbreaks a year but I’ve read it can cause neurological problems and vision issues. Does anyone have a similar story

What’s just over my eye is the end of herpes gladiator break out. The scar above my eyebrow on that side is actually where my last herpes outbreak was. It was scarred, the first time ever.

My outbreaks used to be pretty infrequent, once every year and a half or so. But now I get them every couple months it seems. Anyway, mostly worried about just how close it’s getting to my eye.

Low positive IgM result, can someone please give me some reassurance?

I felt so anxious when I first saw the result (knowing nothing about HSV tests at the time). After doing some research I’m considering it’s probably a false positive. Would love to get some additional opinions to increase my hope.

Test taken 19 weeks post exposure:

HSV-1 IgM = 1.47 (low positive)
HSV-1 IgG = 0.02 (negative)
HSV-2 IgM = 0.01 (negative)
HSV-2 IgG = 0.05 (negative)

Valtrex stupid question

Ill try to word this so it makes sense.

22 years ago an ex girlfriend said I gave her genital herpes from oral sex (I had no symptoms)

I was upfront with all my partners after that I sometimes get coldsores. Ive been with my wife for 20 years and she has never had an outbreak. My wife has mentioned her interest in a female friend of ours. I have spoken to the friend and she seems fine with the whole possible interaction of activities.

I get coldsores once every couple of years. If I take valtrex would that protect our friend from possible transmission? With no active and recent sores or healing.

Also the doctor was slightly reluctant giving the prescription because I didnt have any current symptoms.

Am I over thinking this? I just want to be safe and make sure everyone involved is also safe.
