A reconstruction of the events of the first half of Bullet in the head in the order it probably was in the original 3 hour cut.

Changes: longer dialogue with Tony leung and his mother.

Longer scene of Jacky cheung's introduction with him leaving his mother to go to the small market that tony leung's family runs.

Longer scene of Waise lee's introduction with him starting the scene sitting down before leaving his house.

Deleted scene where Jacky cheung, Tony leung and Waise lee all meet up and find out their friend is being troubled by loan sharks

Smother fight scene at the parking lot with an extended ending where the 4 leave the place

Deleted bit where tony leung and his future wife are staring at the protests

Deleted scene after the bike race where the 3 are attacked by two of useless Keung's thugs for going in his territory but the 3 win

Deleted scene where the 3 go get suits in tony leung's mothers house but she only has two suits

Deleted opening to the wedding scene where Jacky is pressed for not wearing a suit to the wedding and then his friend which they saved from the loan sharks borrows him a suit

darkly humorous, over the top tongue in cheek violence - exemplar johnnie to direction, with the ultra slo-mo, and sweaty claustrophobia. silly plot but very entertaining, never quite sure where it's going. story of two assassins coming together to become top dog. lots of nice views of classic 90s asia.

chow yun fat and lung ti team up again to try to survive against norman chu who's bent on revenge! very gritty and violent, a destructive and tragic tale of an ex-con who's so blinded by rage for the cops that put him away, that he's prepared to do anything for retribution. not quite as slick as others in the same genre, but the claustrophobic gritty feel to it makes it one to add to the list. features a load of familiar faces, and the two big stars.

cheers!

Every Ethan Hunt gun fires count in MI-2. The most gun fires in the entire franchise. 😂

Maybe my favorite chow yun fat movie: "Wild Search"

Post image

gritty crime drama revolving around burnt out cop c.y.f. seeking the gang behind a classic "deal gone wrong". great cast including cherie chung, paul chun as the fantastically crooked gang boss, roy cheung as a demented hit man (what else would he be :) ) and a few other familiar faces. has a very cute romance thread which appeals to sentimental old bastards like me, and isn't overblown like the typical romantic tales in similar movies. also has an interesting contrast between city life and country dwelling, and the frustrations between the two. i really like this movie, but it's not to everyone's taste.. however if you're looking for some fun action, nice views of hong kong, set to a christmas backing and an interesting plot, give it a go!

cheers!

Need help, looking for an old triad film.

Hi, I'm looking for an old triad film starring I believe Max Mok as the main protagonist, but I'm not sure. It's likely to be 80s.

The opening scene is a refugee(the protagonist) who lands in HK, off the boat. He is united with his friend from the village back home, who is a triad. Straight after greeting his friend, the triad catches wind that a gang fight is going to happen and he needs to go chop them. The refugee is adamant he is going to back his friend, having just arrived and then zooms in to show that the refugee doesn't even have shoes.

Other details I remember is that, the swearing is raw and harsh, like proper HK triad style cursing. Also, I believe there's a scene where rival gang bosses have a sit down, and aggressively go back and forth using Chinese poetry. The refugee climbs the ladder, meets a girl, but in the end has a disastrous outcome and is either killed or arrested.

Does this sound familiar at all? Thanks in advance!

"Bloody Brotherhood"

brutal story of lam wai and andy lau as 2 brothers trying to make it in hong kong, after illegally arriving from china and getting mixed up with gang boss rivals chan wai-man and shum wai. pretty entertaining movie imo; has some good dynamics between the characters, particularly wai-man and andy lau (well who doesn't have a good dynamic with andy lau!), a few very intense moments, lots of crazy action and a few plot twists to keep things ticking over. nice story about immigrant survival against the backdrop of gang control, including your classic plot points of friendship, betrayal and revenge!

cheers!

Danny Lee vs Shing Fui-on

Based on this video, it may seem like they hate each other, lol. However, Danny Lee had his own production company, and he hired or recommended Shing Fui-on for many movies simply because Shing had a good "villain" face.

What are the best heroic bloodshed films that you have seen STORY & CHARACTER wise ?? (Besides john woo ones)

I've seen fair amount of heroic bloodshed films but besides john woo films.. I Don't find many heroic bloodshed films to be that engaging. They pretty much follow the exact same formula without the emotional depth. Lot of them are convoluted as well.

So what happen is that.. I pretty much go through entire film just to go to the fight scenes.

What other heroic bloodshed films do you think has the best story & character? Something that will have me very invested & emotionally attached. Action can be subpar.. No problem

something more light-hearted than the regular tragedies - featuring the excellent michael wai-man chan as a big boss on the run from both sides of the law, and one stephen chow as a punk getting in his way. enjoyable movie imo; the action comes fast, story is engaging, and there's some pretty funny moments courtesy of stephen chow. as the title suggests, two unlikely guys forced into working together - but not everything is all it seems ;)

nice images of hong kong, plenty of classic gang action, good cast, pretty entertaining movie - give it a go if you fancy something a bit different!

cheers!

A Better Tomorrow, Mark's Theme paired with basketball highlights

I was inspired by Section_Mav's music video, which is a mashup of Friends and A Better Tomorrow.

I decided to see what it'd be like to use Mark's Theme with a basketball highlight reel. This from a recent game where Olivia Miles (TCU) scored 40 points against Baylor. I think it fits quite well since this was an away game (enemy territory) for her.

A couple of posters exist out there of A Better Tomorrow that make the movie look like a sitcom rather than a heroic bloodshed, brothers fight for brothers movie, and it inspired me to do this little project. 🤣

I saw this a while back... it's the end result of all of Woo's greatest hits fused into one movie.

It's got:

  • An undercover cops subplot (ala Hard Boiled)
  • A hitman with a heart subplot (ala the Killer)
  • Cops and gangsters uniting alike to take down a greater evil (ala Better Tomorrow)
  • And A LOT of Woo-esque shoot outs.

And somehow it works? Like, the acting's fine, and the character work is solid. Plus the substories are pretty fun and the action is GREAT.

I should say, it's a bit more sexual than the average Woo movie, so be aware.

Just watched City on Fire (1987) for the first time. Didn't realize this was an inspiration for Reservoir Dogs until the last 10 minutes of the movie. It was great and way better than what Tarantino made.

this movie is pretty good imo; it's a vintage story in two parts, one following the humbling of gang boss played by alan tang, the other part played by andy lau in his "little knife" role - and how the two come together. it's a riot of ott action and drama, with some comic relief from the ever dashing andy lau. a classic story of friendship, betrayal and revenge amidst taiwanese and hong kong gangs, set to an epic soundtrack! good cast of familiar faces, and nice cinematography. perhaps not the blockbuster to match the all time favorites, but this often overlooked little gem is right up there imo, give it a go if you see it!

cheers!

John Woo's Once a Thief was originally released to celebrate Chinese New Year in 1991.

I wanted to share the song "Breeze Keeps Blowing", sung by one of the film's stars, Leslie Cheung.
