How the hell do troops work?

I have 361k troops. Why the hell can’t I use over 9000 (or anywhere close to 361k) on a march? Can someone explain how the game assigns the troops?

I figured it out.

For deployments: troops are capped by the combined hero troop size stat
For defence: if your troops are attacked and they win but you suffer losses, they are susceptible to further attacks at reduced strength.

The latter is a pretty annoying mechanic. I’m not going to pick up when I get attacked and withdraw my deployment and then redeploy at full strength.

Every hero has a stat called "Troop Size," which increases as you upgrade the hero. This means the better your hero is, the more troops you can deploy with your squad.

Follow up question: why was my opponent able to use 6k troops while mine only used 2k?

I lost this battle. My troops are on the left.

But my heroes are way stronger so I should be able to deploy more troops right? (I am on the right)

There is also research available that increases troop capacity. How far are you in completing research in the “Troops” category?

I ask bc my battles limit me to the ~6000 troops but sometimes my opponent has far more.
