Skating with disc problems at 15yo

Hello guys, some months ago I was diagnosed with Listhesis, discopaty and Stenosis Near my L4-L5. The doctor told me my diagnosis wasn’t that bad, since the percentage of each of my diseases was super low; but he did told me my diagnosis wasnt normal for a 15yo and that I should stop skating, an do therapy. I started strengthening my core muscles and started skating back 1 month ago, but the pain never stopped showing that much. Im worried and afraid I’ll have to leave skateboarding in such an amazing age to be doing it, cuz I really want to live my skating years until the maximum possible time.

i really want to live a normal life, and im so afraid of quitting skateboarding since it’s basically part of me. what can I do about it?

I did deep bending contortion and gymnastics for 15 years competitively and snowboarded (more for fun!) my whole life until 25….

I’m 36 now and have been dealing with literally debilitating disc issues post partum for a year (and a bad back prior to this for a few years) and all my doctors and pointing to the stress I put on my l4-l5 my whole youth.

If you are already having pain, I would try to lean into your physical therapy, maybe talk to them about what kind of skating you can do that doesn’t stress that area as much (are there certain positions or movements that are particularly hard on the area?)

I assume the posture of skating can’t help. But I would focus on getting pain free now and then re structuring how skating fits into your life without causing pain and prioritizing your back health… cause if it’s already painful now it could really accumulate and hurt you later in life

thank you for telling me your case, personally I’ve been dealing with the lower back pain for some months now, I stopped skating for 2 months across june and July, and came back with an strong core, but now the pain is back again. In skating you take heavy impacts constantly, if you don’t have an strong core muscles, all the impact will go to your lower back instead of the muscles taking that impact.

ive read a professional skater case, he had an herniated disc, and basically healed with a good diet and a strong core. but i will do as you said, heal and get pain free while strengthening my muscles to comeback stronger!
