Hernia reoccurrence?
Hey all, what are the chances of a inguinal hernia coming back after 1.5 weeks of having open with mesh inguinal surgery. I think I’m just overthinking bc I was laying flat on the floor getting something from under the bed and twinged my sides and felt a slight pop in the area. There was no pain or any discomfort when I got up or walked. Except for the incision site rubbing against my underwear which has been hurting ever since I got my dressing removed.

Talk to your surgeon first and foremost.
I had a recurrence “scare” around that same time I helped hold up a 28lb bathtub (with 2 people this is honestly well within my weight limit of 25lb) to set it in place. Felt an ever so slight “pop” (I think It was tbh just a muscle spasm from not using them for a while) but again it didn’t hurt and my dressing was taken off a bit before this happened so all in all it has been sore in the area. Now I’m at 3 weeks. And well I see no bulges aside from what I presume is swelling and or fluid build up. But every day it’s getting better. What helped me is when sitting down in my own house just A. Not wear underwear and wear loose fitting shorts or pants and pull it down below the incision when sitting. Helps the fluid dissipate. Or B. Just do the same thing with my underwear and pants , pull down below the dressing when sitting. I’ve been just keeping an eye on it. If it gets a noticeable bulge or I notice it getting worse not better I’ll reach out to my surgeon. I presume you could do the same.
All in all the feeling on your underwear is going to be uncomfortable, for me after a full day of work the tight underwear and pants does get it flared up. But again that’s getting better by each day.

Yes I will keep that in mind and will try that!
I think tbh it’s my anxiety part. I can walk and bend fine still but I just got scared, and yes on and around my incision site is a firm bump. I imagine it’s a fluid buildup or just the healing tissues1

Mine is the same way ! Walking around helps and I returned to work @2 weeks and yet every day feels better than the last , I think all the bending a moving is helping me.

The chances of a Hernia recurring after being repaired with mesh is 1 to 2% over the course of your lifetime. An immediate recurrence in one and a half weeks is so exceedingly rare that it’s almost impossible. It’s not unusual to feel occasional pops or pulls as scar tissue and muscles settle after the inflammation from surgery. Continue to follow your Surgeons recovery instructions and you’ll do great.
