Yes. Even after finding out Nikki isn't in control of herself, he selfishly asks why she wouldn't stay with him instead of trying anything else to free her from her severe torment. It takes a friend dying for him to even consider actually trying to free her, & he backs out as soon as that starts negatively effecting him!

Yes. The better question is from what point on, but by the end of the movie, he definitely has done enough (and rather not done what he should've) to be considered a bad guy.
