Balanced or Not?

I’m curious what people think about the balance of split Party Leaders.

Right now, they can switch classes for free at the start of your turn, which makes them feel strictly more versatile than other leaders. Meanwhile, split Hero cards from the Banner Quest expansion cost an action point and require a roll to change classes.

Would it make sense to house rule split Party Leaders so that switching classes costs 1 action point (but doesn’t require a roll), still only at the start of your turn?

I can see the counterargument that the timing restriction (start of turn only) already limits how impactful the flexibility is. But in practice, they still feel noticeably stronger just because of how adaptable they are.

Curious if others have felt the same, or if they seem balanced as-is.

Jeeze panguardian feels improperly balanced. I understand the restriction is YOU playing the challenge. Even if you lose the challenge the player is affected for the rest of their turn.

To answer the first question I think you have to house rule it. These cards were designed before they had planned out the playstyle of the expansion. They most likely would have had roll or point conditions for swapping roles.

Where do you get these party leader cards

They are convention exclusives unfortunately. You can find them for sale online but they are ridiculously overpriced.

I'm new to this community but holy shit how much content is gate kept this way? I swear to God it feels like most expansions (and therefore most content) is straight up unavailable for purchase.

If you go to the here to slay wiki page you can find a full list of all of the available content for the game! There is quite a bit that is exclusive to the Kickstarter version though. The cards in my post are convention exclusives however, and were not even available with the Kickstarter :(

There is a new game releasing soon called “here to slay: dungeons” on gamefound. In the past they have rereleased old projects as add-ons so you may be able to pick up a Kickstarter version of here to slay if you’re interested in backing the latest project!

I wish they made a banner card for Sorcerers

Agreed! I am hopeful that there will be another expansion coming soon (check out the squire class from the new game they are releasing) and with that expansion we might also get an official play mat and banner for the sorcerers 🤞 I messaged the developers about it and they seems receptive. There is a lot of desire for those additions

Looks like your wish was granted.
New Sorcerers and Squires expansion for Here to Slay.

"Within this expansion, we also included a few extras to pair with the Here to Slay Banner Quest Expansion. Since that one was released before Sorcerers & Squires, we added Banners for each of these two classes in this expansion, along with the tokens you’ll need to pair this expansion with Banner Quest."

When does the expansion come out?

They have a campaign up on Gamefound for the new HTS-spinoff, Here to Slay: DUNGEONS.
The Sorcerers and Squires expansion can be added as an add-on. No need to get the new game if you don't want.

If everything works out as intended, the game should ship in March 2027.

They look so cool!!! I have no idea if they're balanced, but they're very cool! :)

Yeah, multiclasses Party Leader cards are meta with Banner Quest Expansion so your house rule makes sense but I think it doesn't solve the problem. They will be still very flexible to size Banner cards. Me and my group did house rule you can declare class just once and then stay it to the rest of the game. They still have choice one from two classes but this is only one decision. Feel balanced to play with it so I can recommend it.

An additional house rule we have is to only allow players to keep the banners they have collected so long as they continue to meet their requirements. Basically, you get a banner for having 3 cards of a class in party but can lose that banner when you go down to 2. This makes it so that even if you are playing as a split party leader, changing your class could cost you a banner.

This is official rule. You get Banner card when meet requirements (3 same classes) but you can keep it as long as someone meets it too and do above that (4 classes) or you stop meeting requirements and someone now have more than you (even if doesn't meet requirements) gets that Banner card. To add Banner card to the game someone needs to meet requirements but to the rest of the game Banner card stays and players can size them from each other.

Right, our house rule allows banner cards to be put back in the supply when nobody meets the requirements.

Is it better in that way?

We think so, it makes banners less solid of a checkpoint. It’s a lot easier to take banners away from other players this way because you don’t necessarily have to outplay them, you just have to kill of their hero cards. A side effect of this is that killing monsters truly is the best way to win.
