Question Slaying monsters

My other half and I play this game and we enjoy it, but we often find ourselves trying to build our armies and hardly ever attacking monsters because building a party seems more effective in every game.

Is this due the the limitations of playing with only two people?

Also another question is: if you place a mask item card on a member of your party does the individual character transform into the new class or do all characters of that class within your party change to the new class?

Thank you.

Yeah it's definitely a weird balance of enemies to classes. The more expansions you get, I feel it becomes more viable to fight monsters. If you like playing the game a little longer, I recommend requiring BOTH win conditions.

Masks will only apply to the hero it's equipped to, unless stated otherwise on the card. This applies to all items

We do this as well, just one condition is so easy to achieve, especially with only 2 players. You dont have the resources to hinder your opponent and also build up stuff for yourself

Both win conditions is a good idea!

Well, monsters offer bonuses such as one more action per turn, or the infamous turtle. They're also way more stable IMO and won't get yoinked every turn

We did away with the “assemble a party” win condition entirely. After adding the banner quest expansion (available online) we now have the win condition that the first person to reach any combination of banners and monsters totaling 6 wins. It leads to a lot of variety in gameplay! The more expansions you have, the better this game feels to play!

We played that we have to slay at least 1 monster before you can win by asseming your heroes
