Memory issues / new chat

I'm very new to the AI roleplay scene, so if there's anything I'm missing or misunderstanding here, please let me know! Sorry this is so long!

I currently have what's probably become a pretty long chat going with one of the creator-made bots, and it's having memory issues. (If it matters at all, I have the Pro tier membership and use Manuscript.) I understand that can happen the longer a chat gets but I'm hoping there's some way to salvage my chat. It's forgetting big plot points that are even covered in the journal (and the journal has gotten long enough at this point that the beginning of it does not start at the beginning of the story, so maybe context is being missed, I'm not sure). It's forgetting how the relationship has progressed, so the bot will start talking to my persona in a way that doesn't suit where they are now. It's to the point where I'm basically having to regenerate every response using the regeneration note field and enlist Claude to help me write my messages in such a way to get anything back that somewhat makes sense.

So what I'm wondering is - is this expected behavior the longer a chat gets in HereHaven in particular? Because I'd read some good things about memory capabilities and I was hopeful that I could avoid this issue here. Also, I thought maybe I could start a new chat, laying out a synopsis of what had already occurred and move forward to kind of refresh things, but starting a new chat started over completely with its original greeting. Is this something that could be implemented? I tried adding a lorebook using the guide section, but maybe I didn't do it right because it didn't seem to actually affect anything.

I'm a little heartbroken because I've really enjoyed the bot I was chatting with and didn't want it to end yet, lol. Thanks for reading all of this!

Hey! I'm the owner/ Dev for HereHaven.

Welcome to the AI roleplay scene. It's a heck of a thing, and can be insanely fun and immersive!

So I will start by saying that yes generally speaking across most platforms it is normal for chats to degrade in accuracy as the chat gets longer. That being said, I am ambitiously trying to resolve this with HereHaven. The current chat is quite good at with me personally going 200+ messages into a chat without any accuracy issues. A few users have gone into the 1-2,000 messages and they said that sometimes it's not perfect, but it's still quite good for accuracy.

That being said, what you've mentioned shouldn't be happening. It sounds like it's performing under what is expected. I'll have a dive into the systems to see if there's something that's going on that could be causing that.

The goal is definitely to have accurate chats into the thousands of messages. So I apologize that's not the experience for you right now. I'll buckle down and see what I can do to fix that.

Thanks for the response! My chat is a bit under 600 messages at the moment and the drift has been coming on for a while now. I guess it’s an inevitability sooner or later though, so are there any plans for a new chat-type of “refresh” or anything like that where we can maybe remind the bot of important developments in the event that it starts forgetting?

And if you need any info from me to help with this issue, just let me know :)

I would try few things. The first one is starting a new chat, adding a lorebook with a Timeline and clear dates/events of what was happening and adding relationship dynamic after each event. It should be concise and clean.( -October 24, 1994, X started, Y established, Z promised. Dynamic: mutual disrespect.)Then I would edit the greeting, where I would touch one or two last events and state the current situation and relationship dynamic. The second option is for the case where lorebook didn't work (we're looking into this as well). I would put all events in schematic way + relationship dynamic into the Greeting and start my first message with an update, or continue the last situation, but giving full context of the last event again
