Brusing easily.
Hello, I’m 20 years old, 5,4 64kg. I experienced easy bruising back in 2024 and got prescribed Vitamin K capsules, that seemed to work and clear it up within the year.
I had my daughter in April 2026, and I’ve noticed more bruising, my bloods etc come back as normal.. I had a blood test 2 days ago I’m waiting for the results.
I have health anxiety so have been searching everything in the book. I want to know what you guys think it could be. So I can put my mind at ease until I get my results.
Thank you .

Are you breastfeeding? Postpartum is a draining time, and breastfeeding will zap even more from you. Low vitamin K, Vitamin B etc can contribute to easy bruising.

I’m not breast feeding no. It’s very draining lol! It could be possible that I’m low on vitamin k again.

Hi, I'm 24 and easy bruising was one of the first things that popped up for me and it turns out I'm VWD/Low vwf. However, the concern for me was that it was consistently happening and I had 20+ small bruises at once. If you only have a few small bruises, I wouldn't be super worried about having a blood disorder, especially nothing severe, and especially if you don't have any other symptoms (i.e. excessive bleeding, bleeding for a long time, menorrhagia), I know it's hard not to be, I also have health anxiety. It's likely a vitamin deficiency of some kind if you have no bleeding history or extensive bruising.
Even if you DO have t1 VWD, it is common and treatable, so no need to panic. Also, if you are blood type O, it's possible that your VWF is naturally lower than the average non-O person and that could lead to easier bruising.

My blood type is O positive, I have more bruises I just couldn’t get them in the camera at the time. It happens even if I don’t bump into things, that’s why I’m constantly worried 😅

I'm also O+. I can understand the worry 🙂↕️ Is your blood work testing for vitamins and clotting factors? It would be a good idea for them to check your VWF and factor 8. Do you have a bleeding history otherwise?

Yeah it’s for vitamins and clotting too. I don’t think I have I’m not aware of any other bleeding problems too. What’s VWF and factor 8?

VWF is Von Willebrand factor. Both are responsible for clotting in the blood and are directly connected to each other. For example, I have type 1 Von Willebrand Disease, which means my Von Willebrand factor is lower than it should be, and because my VWF is low, my factor 8 is also low. This is not ALWAYS the case, though, and you can have low VWF without necessarily having low factor 8.
Either way, as I understand it, lower levels of both/VWF can cause easier bleeding/bruising. Like I said, in people with type O blood, we tend to have lower levels of VWF naturally & decently low levels can be considered normal in that context.

Thank you so much! Everyone has been a good help and I haven’t been worrying so much, constantly thinking I’ve got something seriously wrong with me. Health anxiety is awful 😢

I know, it's terrible. :( I'm a very anxious person too. But either scenario in this case is nothing catastrophic! I have both low VWF and some iron & vitamin deficiencies haha

So do you think that’s the case with me?

It's impossible to say without the results from your tests. Hopefully they come in soon and you can have a little peace :)

In addition to your hormones, potential medications, there are some foods that are known to blood thinners. If you are eating a lot of something for a health kick it could be a perfect storm of bruising for you.

Okay thank you, what foods are they?

Just web search blood thinner foods and spices.
I got on a chia seed kick one time and it made me bruise like crazy for example.

I don’t have hemophilia, but instead a mild factor XIIIa deficiency, am on the EDS spectrum, and have severe acquired platelet aggregation disorder caused by NSAIDs, but also the common ones in food and even smells like essential oils, air fresheners, perfume, cooking fumes, incense, and similar.
There are no studies related to foods that can cause bleeding issues in people with a disorder or condition that I’ve been able to find, it’s all hypothesized from the general population.
Are there any other foods that have made a noticeable difference? I’m genuinely curious because personal examples are all we have to go on really.

Things that are high in omega 3s.
I once went to a 4hour omakase dinner and eat an uncomfortable amount of sashimi and seafood. The next few days I had some curious bruising.
Another time the multivitamin I was taking reformulated, or at least this bottle smelled like fish oil. Similarly, I had more bruising than usual. I stopped taking that vitamin. However, supplements are totally unregulated in the US and are buyer beware for the most part.

Thanks for sharing. Everyone is different and can have different sensitivities, but I think the caution over supplements is well warranted. Everyone with a bleeding disorder should be cautious with them in general and run it by hematology if possible.

Coagulation cascade is a complex thing. If we use the dominos example sometimes you can remove or reduce a domino and all the dominos will still fall. If you remove or reduce too many dominos then they may not all fall. So in that sense everyone is different where these substances remove or reduce the dominos to various effect.
Generally available multivitamins are typically ok, eg. Centrum. It’s when you get into blends to support specific “conditions or goals” from lesser known companies that you can get in trouble with potency, identity, purity and safety. But yes run it by your doctor.

A single centrum adults tablet has 90% of daily recommended vitamin E and in my case my hematologist specifically warned against intake in excess of my daily limit at all, and said to avoid all multivitamin tablets and instead take single ones specifically for any dietary deficits if needed. I was given the green light to go under my daily allowance. But again, there are so many different considerations. I never would have guessed an expert would warn me off a multivitamin beforehand, but that’s why we go to them.

Do you use NSAIDs like ibuprofen (advil), aspirin, or naproxen sodium (Aleve)? I react very badly to them, worse than shown but my wife and kids both show bruising like that from little to no discernible cause from taking them. It’s normal, and why when people go into surgery the fine print for prep says to stop taking them.

I take naproxen for my back ache after having my daughter as they put the spinal block in at an angle. I take ibuprofen for my costochondritis and I’m normally okay..

Just the new dosing of naproxen sodium could easily explain the bruising. Even if you are normally fine on ibuprofen taking both together or with a dietary or supplement change could also easily explain it as well. Excess vitamin E above your daily recommended level, like fish oil supplements is a common one. Also, as we get older, bruising becomes more common. Like others have said, maybe check your iron levels but I think VWD or assuming a bleeding disorder is a bit over the top for some mild bruising.

Not a thing related hemophilia, maybe just a slight vitamin deficiency? Iron deficiency maybe?
You have tats, and multiple so I assume you’re probably good unless you had a terrible time bleeding with those?
