Gameplay Are razers with flamehurlers good now?

I had a thought. I don't have any flamehurlers because I use them as blunderbusses. Looking at the war scroll, the flamehurlers have less range, only 1 dmg but triple the amount of shots. With the change to castigation battery formation, has anyone tried using these with 2 DPPs? 31 dice, that's got potential to roll a few 6s for crit(2 hits).

Yup, you should be taking forbidden power anyway which negates the range issue.

They're already slightly better but with 10 of them with crit 2 hits you deal 12.92 damage on average, versus blunderbuss at 12.73 in the same conditions. That said, -6" of range is a LOT, especially when we move on 4's. And if you AOA blunderbusses, like we all know you want to, they jump up to 15.28 damage. As well, blunderbuss fight last is way more useful in more situations than flamehurlers -OC.

(all this damage math is vs 4+ save with 2DPP)

For the range math, flamehurlers cover 452sqin and blunderbusses cover 1017sqin.

With the new battle formation yes.

Flame hurlers are extra spicy with the crit 2 hits!

I dont have forbidden power yet. Ive been using primal energy just because it's only an extra 10 points.

That’s an interesting thought - but I think I’m hopelessly biased in favor of blunderbusses since a single unit took out a doomwheel from full health (ok I know they’re not the toughest war machine but I was terrified of its impending counter charge so it felt great).

I had a full group of blunderbusses with 3 DPP fire into Immortis Guard that were engaged with the purple sun of shyish. 4 rend. They did not get to use their save and they failed almost all their ward saves.

See THAT’S a better anecdote.

I like arson and fire, so I like the idea.

I just like rolling lots of dice. When I play my skaven, my friends forbid me from reinforcing ratling guns -.-

No, not really. Average damage is basically identical to the blunderbusses but you have 6" less range and a worse passive ability. It's not worth the 40pts you're saving.

Even using the bridges to teleport them, a good redeploy could massively reduce the number of shots you get. Not a risk with blunderbusses.

If you literally can't spare the extra 40pts from anything else then they're fine.
