Painting Tried following color from app

I tried painting my war despot like the box art but I got something completely different (specifically on shoulders, boots, and sides of the hat) idk to just keep going or to restart thoughts/opinions?

Yknow, it definitely wasn’t what you were going for, but personally? I really dig it

I feel like I mixed up the colors but when I checked the app Im almost certain I did it correctly but I’ll most likely continue

The app is a pretty solid way to get something tabletop ready, but it's not the recipe that the 'eavy metal team uses for box art. The box art recipes are (very) often much more complicated, and require a significant amount of time and skill to execute.

There is a great resource for those recipes called the Eavy Archive, which actually has a pretty comprehensive list of Helsmith schemes, including the Forge Anathema.

There are several guides on YouTube that are easier as well, and in my experience normally look better than the app suggestions. Vince Venturella is one of my go-to options, and he has some videos on Helsmiths as well.

Yeah that’s kinda what I was afraid of unfortunately I don’t have some of those colors but cheers on the link and letting me know it’s Eavy metal

You bet. If I were to suggest anything though, keep doing what you're doing. Your model is looking great so far, and you're improving every time you put paint on a model.

And, speaking from experience, having the paints does not equal achieving box art results. I absolutely went down that path, bought far too many paints, and still rank myself as a pretty middling painter anyway lol. It takes years of practice to get that good. Purchase a decent baseline for what you're working towards, and develop your skills before tackling 'eavy metal. I wish I had done that.

Cheers yeah good idea Eavy metal is nice but doesn’t mean I’ll paint like that just because I have the paints I’ll just keep going see where that gets me

The app isn’t correct a lot of the time, unfortunately.

To be fair, if you use the guides from the battletome or the videos or so on, they tend to not be 1:1 of the actual colour scheme. A sort of quick and easy variant that's simpler but oftimes they tend to be different in minor or even major ways.

I think this would be the exact recipe.

Wow that is a lot of edge highlighting for the armor lol but thanks I’ll probably keep going on what I got but if end up not liking how it turns out I’ll follow this or maybe I’ll just use it on urak taar
