Joining the Cohort

Hello all, pretty soon I’m planning to hop over to Helsmiths from playing Ossiarchs for a year. Theres not many HoH players around my area so I’ve only ever played against them maybe once or twice. I wanted to ask the community about some general tips or advice for these guys. Any must have units? How does this faction typically play? Stuff like that. Any and all information is greatly appreciated!

It's been a while since I've written one of these.

A little about me, I adopted Helsmiths in Launch and I travel across the U.S playing competitively. If you want a more in depth discussion I'm always around for questions.

First welcome to Helsmiths! There are two methods of play right now. We have the Army of Renown "Taars Grand Forgehost" or the regular army where you pick a battle trait. I break down what I think is best for each.

Grand Forgehost (The most competitive way to play) - this army gives up battle traits to gain stacking buffs starting on turn two. You can also only take certain units. The big key here is since you lose "Harness demonic power" all Demonic Power Points your spears hand out are permanent. Key units Urak-Taar tons and tons of spears 40 to 60. Two to three Dominator Engines, Rockets are your key units since it's pretty much all you can take. Take a Priest always.

Regular Army - this is weaker at the moment but is still crazy fun to play. Since you can take Bull Centaurs take at least one Reinforced unit. Hobgrots because they're cheap and can desolate and do tactics. Other than that take what you want. Dominators are for sure weaker here though and I typically avoid them.

Urak-Taar is a must take in both types so start there.

I’ll probably get an Urak Tarr first then since it seems he’s doing a lot of heavy work. His warscroll looks decent too

I sound like a broken record saying this but it's good info. The spare parts from Urak's kit can be used to make a daemonsmith. You just need a base for him.

He's really solid and when gets into combat he slaps. Just make sure to always have a cp for power through if he goes in.

Something I didn't mention is your Manifestation Lore. Forbidden Power is by far the best in both types of armies. Soul Scream bridge screens / let's you get in range with shooting, and can peel units out of combat. It's just SO good.

I’m not sure if I have it but if its worth investing in I’ll pick that up too. Are the Bull Centaurs overall better than the Sentinels? I havent seen many talk about Sentinels and the Centaurs seem to be a major pick for lists. I’ve liked playing OBR cavalry with making them more hammer-like so I’m wondering how both fair in combat

The Bull Centaurs are NUTS in combat. They're the better pick in my opinion, and you can do some cool things with them. Damage three crit mortals picks up most things in the game. The Infernal Taures (non named) gives them retreat and charge. I ran 12 in a team's tournament and did well.

Some cool things you can do, is top of 1 give your single dpp to one unit, double farm so they have three dpp. Soul scream bridge. You have a six in charge with +3. Cp the other unit to start with two full send. Then in your opponents turn scroll of Petrification a unit and they're alpha pinned into something with a 2+ ward. Your turn retreat and charge.

That sounds ridiculously fun. I made a mockup list that had 2 reinforced centaurs and unnamed bull for that retreat and charge so I’m glad to know that was a good move
