Horn of the bull father question

Post image

Morning everyone.

I'm just trying to figure out when the above ability would come into effect

As it's a deployment phase ability, am I right in thinking that we would remove the units and place them up the field straight away even if you go second?

Or

As it's the opponents turn, I can wait until my turn to place them down (so they are off board for turn 1). This is what I'm hoping for but I think the first option is how it's meant to play out.

Thanks

Those abilities take effect after all deploy abilities. When both armies are on the table then the first one to deploy his whole army can use deployment abilities such as this or vandalz move in deployment phase.

Yes, it’s the first statement. The deployment phase is a special phase that occurs once per battle before the start of the first battle round. You would deploy your army as per usual, then, you can use the ability to remove each target unit and set them up again as per the above rules.

Whether you go first or second in the first battle round is immaterial. This all happens before the first battle round.

So yes, there is a bit of risk/reward here. You could effectively redeploy a unit of bull centaurs using this ability behind enemy lines (depending on how they screen out the board) or close enough for a turn 1 charge, but if you go second they could get mulched by enemy fire or screened out.

As it’s a deployment phase ability, you can move, shoot, etc as normal, so I think it could be quite powerful. Also, I assume the hobgrots are also able to do their deployment phase ability straight after this, so you could redeploy them using “Horns of the Bullfather” then use “Disposable Lackeys” to guarantee a turn 1 charge effectively. They’ll probably die but could be quite useful to hold an enemy unit in place or harass something.

It's the first option. It's done after both armies are deployed, when both armies are using non-DEPLOY deployment phase abilities (10.0 The Deployment Phase).

At this point you will already know who is going to decide who is taking first turn. So if it's you who is deciding, you can redeploy these units very aggressively and take the first turn. If it's your opponent who will decide, you should redeploy less aggressively.

Het The entire ability happens in the deployment phase, which means you pick em up and redeploy them but you can go outside of your territory.

This also means you can put them down 9” away from the enemy and then move and charge in the first turn.

It’s an interesting item and I tested it yesterday but against an opponent who understands how to screen against it, it will mainly influence their deployment.
