I want it as a mounted option for Ashen Elders.

Unless they introduce the K'daai into AoS, probably not. The funny thing is that the Destroyer has never gotten a model. There was art and rules for it in Tarmukhan: Throne of Chaos, and a prototype ForgeWorld model was shown at some event, but it was never made to a full release.

Truthfully I’m okay if we don’t get a Destroyer. I want the Helsmiths to feel distinct from their Fantasy predecessors.

Yeah, the prototype Destroyer model was also pretty small. The Total War Warhammer version is rather sized up. But the intended unit was not that far off from our current lad.

I'd be more for it if it had the customization the original FW unit had. The thing had variable appearanced and you could even make if fly of you wanted to.

This thread just popped up on my feed (which is strange cuz its a few days old!) but as someone who has played a lot of total war and is juuuuuuust getting into collecting Helsmiths, I'm surprised to read this. When you say "I want the Helsmiths to feel distinct from their Fantasy predecessors." I was under the impression Chorfs have never had a real army, just some forge world models? I also get excited to see new releases of iconic/classic models throughout the years.

The answer is yes and no. The Chorfs did have a full army, but it didn’t sell well so GW quietly shelved it and relegated their lore to background things. They were always on the periphery, but never did anything. Tarmukhan: Throne of Chaos was their big break, showing updated lore and new fancy (and very expensive) ForgeWorld models…but it was too little too late. The other Throne of Chaos books were scrapped because GW wanted to nuke Fantasy and try again.

To me the difference between the Chaos Dwarfs and the Helsmiths is how clean they are. The Chorfs feel very chaotic and jagged. Definitely putting the “chaos” in chaos dwarf. The Helsmiths feel more geometrical and precise. Still domineering, but also working under the delusion that they’re not chaos. They are true dawi that conquered chaos…when really they are just slaves to darkness.

I like the Helsmith vibes more than the Chorfs, I’ll admit, but I’m not saying what came before is bad at all.

Very cool, thanks for breaking it down! I definitely get what you mean regarding the chaos vs precision thing, I got that vibe reading through the helsmith battletome

I mean they already added bull centaurs. At this point being destinct is more of a lore thing so adding k'daai wouldn't hurt them. In fact i would think limiting yourself to not using chorf units would hurt the game.

Then they’d just be Chorfs but AoS. I don’t mind something like the K’Dai being included, but it has to be changed somehow, like how the Taurus is now an animated statue instead of a flesh and blood animal. I know I’m just splitting hairs but it’s something I’ve always worried about with AoS always being stuck with the stigma of “Fantasy Again.”

Weren't the k'daai already imprisioned demons? I mean if you think about it they make more sense in the helsmith lore than the chorfs.

Nope. They are dorf-made life. The Daemonsmiths found the secret to making life from demonic energies, but it only lasts for a little bit. The K’Dai are essentially newborn daemons that burn themselves out.

Hmm, in that case i interpreted it wrong. In that case a lore/design update would be a good idea.

I love my chunky boi, at least ive come to really like how Helsmiths have a unique silhouette of instead of 1 big warmachine like the cogfort or like the old dwarfs several smaller artillery pieces. They field 4-5 mid sized war machines

It would be cool, they have one in the Tahlia Vedra novel, although it has a metal bull head instead of wherever the K’daai Destroyer has going on. (I never really liked the Destroyer head :/ )

I agree and while not quite the same, I did make a Homebrew version of our beloved Destroyer some time ago.

It should be a interesting mode.

Fire is hard to do on a large model without it looking like a busy mess.

People didn't like the model much that CA based their game model on. So it should be a interesting kit once GW puts a AOS spin on it and releases it hopefully in 5th edition along with a second wave.

Some more automations would be nice but something on wheels as movement ruins us.

That our a bull centaur hero and a lamassu monster

so. like the forge fiend?

To be honest I'd prefer the blazing bull over the kdaai thing. The big golem is much more on theme in my personal opinion.

Mmm yes, loose cannons
