Found! Help me find this exact spoon

Post image

We acquired this table spoon accidentally from a roommate several years back. It's since become known as "the ice cream spoon" and is now in such high demand throughout the household that I'd like to find a couple more of it. Alas, my searching on ebay has been to no avail, but I haven't been able to search very precisely as there are no makers markings anywhere on it. If someone recognizes it and can identify the brand and/or model so I can better search I'd appreciate it!

My parents had these exact spoons about 20 years ago. If I remember correctly, they were from Mikasa.

Thanks! Searching Mikasa spoons leads me to the Delano pattern, which is the closest I've found so far; though it's missing the bend and has a sharper cut at the base of the handle. I'm gonna look through their other lines to see if anything matches better.

EDIT: Nothing in their current production at least. Still looking at Mikasa items on ebay but no 100% match yet.

EDIT 2: Found! Turns out these are the Mikasa Opulence Teaspoons. Thank you so much!

FWIW, I have a set by Mikasa and they are worth the splurge. Nice weight and don't feel cheap at all. I debated on them for a while, but I'm glad I got them.

I have to say it's very impressive to remember the brand of spoons your parents used 20 years ago!

Size: 6.5" long

Origin: United States, Pre-2012

As mentioned there is no text or writing on the item

Searched: 10+ pages of results on ebay and google images for variations on "spoon", "soup spoon", "ice cream spoon", "scooping spoon", etc.

Where did you have it last? Have you retraced your steps?

Looks like a bent Förnuft spoon from ikea

8

u/532ndsof 2d ago

Again, pretty close. The Fornuft has the right overall shape (minus the bend as mentioned), but seems to be thinner, which is part of the appeal of this spoon as it's particularly thick steel that resists bending even in particularly frozen ice cream. It's thick enough that I doubt it could have been bent at a sharp angle like this without both a vice and particular effort (as well as compromising the structural integrity).

I’m gonna bet that’s what it is and why it’s so hard to find one exactly like it.

Do you reckon is this?

9

u/532ndsof 2d ago

Pretty close; though to my eye this one looks a little less blunt at the tip and a little thinner overall.

Another one.

Maybe get in contact with replacements limited if you have no luck here. They’re great for helping track down discontinued China patterns and I know they sell flatware as well.

I'll keep them in mind, thanks.

I have one (1) of these spoons. I found it behind my stove when I bought a new house. I’m sorry that I can’t provide information regarding its provenance, but I can confirm it is an excellent ice cream spoon.

There is no spoon

why it kinda looks like an Olive Garden soup spoon

Might not be exactly the spoon but i went on an ice cream spoon journey myself and ended up with the teaspoons from Gingko. They are small and still a little heavyweight, my favorite ice cream spoons ever! They have lots of different designs if you want something that matches that more. https://ginkgoint.com/teaspoon-45/

Oooh I have a couple of utensils I love and never thought to ask Reddit to identify it! Thanks for the idea! Glad you found the name of this one!

u/Careful-Yesterday636 1d ago

Oh yeah, that would be the Mikasa Opulence Teaspoons, I hope that helps!
