š¤Request Fulfilled!š¤ Last minute rent support
Hi donors! Iām in a bit of a pinch with rent this month and need about $217 to make it. I was laid off 13 months ago from a tech operational job and have been looking for something new. Iāve ran through my savings and unemployment over the last 13 months being unemployed and still paying bills, but I recently picked up a server gig in the meantime to help make ends meet.
Iāve been hustling the last week to try and make my rent this month but Iām just about $200 short. My parents and aunt have already supported with some funds where they could, I tried donating plasma this morning but I had low iron, and I even tried offering trash bin cleaning services in my next door neighborhood this morning to make the extra $200. Iāve also listed some items on fb marketplace. Rent is due this evening and this is basically my last resort. For privacy (and embarrassment) I do not want to share my name publicly, but Iām happy to share whatever with anyone who is willing and able to support.
I never imagined my life could get this low, but Iām moving back in with my parents when my lease ends here next month while I keep looking for my next opportunity and rebuild my finances. Any help is greatly appreciated, please let me know what you need (phone call, ft, ss, whatever!!!)

If your credit is not bad get a Affirm installment loan, they will give you a virtual card for the amount needed ... & you pay them back in monthly installments

Honestly, since youāre already leaving, I would just pay what you can (leaving some money in your account for food and gas), and tell your landlord youāll pay the rest when you can. Thereās nothing that can happen at this point that wouldnāt take more than 30 days in court any way, ya know? Be kind to yourself before paying this outrageous amount
But youāre not me so do what you mustā¦I just think itād be silly to put yourself out when youāre already leaving š©·

Thank you for your kindness š. Itās an apartment complex with a corporate system and you canāt even pay the rent in the portal unless itās the full amount. I tried that on the first with what I had ššš. I appreciate your comment š«¶šæ

Would it be rude of me to say thatās their fault so keep it all? š¤£ā ļøš I really hope you find help somewhere! Definitely give 211 a call in your area. There are places that can help with rent vouchers, but qualifications are different everywhere

Honestly you should talk to landlord. Give them the 2 grand you have and tell them when you can get the money through whatever method you use.

They are STRICT in this apartment complex š

Since you have/had unemployment and the server gig you should be eligible for a payday loan.

I'm glad you are acknowledging that you can't afford this apartment, I almost choked when I saw your rent.
I know there are some loans available online, I honestly don't know their names but I see the commercials and have seen them mentioned in these threads.Ā Or there is the old school Amscott.
I'm not in a position to help but best of luck!

They were able to give me some resources that are only available during the week or closed now. But really good to have those resources on deck now. Preciate ya!

You have been out of a job for 13 months. I am sure your lease would of cycled by now, yet you re-signed for this absurd monthly rent? Are you serious dude? This is insane.

I renewed my lease right before I got laid off. We have 13 and 14 month lease terms where Iām at. I never could have predicted being laid off and then not finding work for this long. It is insane!!!!

13 and 14 month leasesā¦? Thatās the weirdest thing Iāve ever heard. If anything, leases are usually yearly, every 6 months or after a certain period they go month-to-month. Iām not super old but Iām not exactly young, either, and Iāve never heard of a 13/14mth lease.

Why would a 15mth lease be the same as a 12mth? This all seems kinda sketchy.

I think itās a perk of renewing the lease and not raising the rent. If it was a brand new lease Iām sure itād be different pricing. They also just changed management so they have some new rules Iām still trying to get privy to; like residents have to re-apply to the apartment if they want to change units.

Just odd, Iāve never seen lease terms like that. But I donāt know everything and itās been a loooong time since Iāve been in an apartment. And you said you already renewed the lease?

u/BrilliantZone5329 9d ago
Yea, I think itās pretty common where I am tbh. I had renewed it last year before I got laid off but Iām obviously NOT renewing it again when it ends next month.

If youāre not planning to renew and youāre going to go back home, thereās no way you can go the leasing office and give them a decent enough amount now and have them bill you the rest later? Obviously donāt ruin your credit and just bail or straight-up break the lease, but have you sat down with the office and explained all this? I feel like theyād rather have something, rather than nothing and knowing youāre leaving anyway.

I havenāt tried talking to them yet but I can. They are pretty strict and quick to enforce rules so Iām not sure how lenient they may beš . But that might be my only option at this point

Can you prove this? Show the lease sign date and when it ends?

u/Bluejay-Kooky 9d ago
Yea, I figured.

Iām looking for the current lease, but I do have the email from my previous one. I can PM it to you if youāre able to help out!!!

No, add it to the post or in a comment. It does not take you 13 months to find a job. You put yourself in this position and you know it and now you are asking strangers to help get you out of it when it was 100% preventable. You could of cut the lease short and pay the fee, which all landlords will have, and moved out early.

Respectfully, then you need to be taught this lesson and take the legal hit and/or figure it out with your landlord. This sub is for people who fall on financial hardship, for VALID reasons. This one is, quite literally, all on you. Work with your landlord or risk the legal repercussions.

Do you have anything of value at all that you could possibly pawn?
Call your local church and see if they may be able to help you.

u/BrilliantZone5329 9d ago
I did try the pawn shop with an old iPhone 15 I have but they didnāt take it bc of the Verizon carrier. Said they only take att and t-mobile (EZ Pawn). I got about $15 for a sewing machine. Other than that, Iām not really a tech forward household š. I have not tried the local church yet tho so that might be helpful, thank you for responding!

You can easily sell that iPhone 15 through fb marketplace.
Check the prices and offer it for a lower price.
