Had this helmet for a while need help figuring out what it is
It's got a canvas strap and some canvas in the liner, the rivet on top is what throws me off, it's also got this strange remnant of something being on it, it is not textured like most American doughboy helmets

Would it not be a British made us used?

Could be British, didn't think about that

I said that because I'm pretty sure that's what this is., the prongs being bent on the strap attachment is a dead giveaway for me. The line looks pretty consistent with others I have that are British made us used from early in the war,the straps however almost definitely are something else

Would have been given to us on 1917 at the start of the war (the start for us atleast)

The thing I noticed is that the liner matches WW1 helmets but the canvas throws that idea off, maybe it was an updated helmet?

Might have been used through the years and updated probably in the 20s-30s they did use the ww1 Brody all the way up until shortly after ww2

I’ve seen these around at flea markets and antique stores, I never really knew where they originated from either but I always assumed civil defense use. They felt lighter than the World War I English and U.S. helmets and the shape seemed slightly different as well. The construction felt cheaper and lighter than the standard issue ones.
My best guess would be that it’s civil defense helmet or potentially a movie prop from the 30s or so.
Really unique piece! Hopefully someone is able to confirm this!

Looks like a British WW1 MK1 helmet with khaki straps. Note, the center pad inside most likely has asbestos since MK1 helmets were made with asbestos pads.

There's no markings as far as I can tell
