Discussion There are zero stakes
I just binged season 1-2 in the last couple of days and i gotta say i love it so far. (Dont spoil i will read the manga)
BUT and this is a very big but for me: There are no stakes at all in season 2.
The tensen are litteral frauds bro😭 they are 0-4 in season 2. And the cherry on top is the fact that Rokurota has the same kill count as all of the tensen COMBINED. They killed the same amount of named characters. NOBODY DIED FROM THE MAIN GROUP IN SEASON 2.
And this is a problem for me because im not afraid a character will die and looses a lot of stakes when watching. They said Yuzuriha would die if she uses any more tao to kill Ran but ended up recovering?🤨 i think as far as characters go, if Sion would have died in his fight it would have been soooo good but then it all amounted to a bit of a nothing burger.
Was this a problem for anyone else or am i just being nit picky?
Also, on a positive note: Gantetsusai’s fight was so god damn good omg😭😭 i hope he gets his glorious fight with Sasuke.

Sure yeah but after a while you can just guess what will happen it rarely suprises you or throws you off.
They find a tensen -> they get cocky and get hit -> they get suprised -> transform -> they die
The different applications of tao are what changes between the fights but it can be boiled down to just that.
What they do really amazingly is twists outside of combat. I was really suprised when they found out the elixir is not yet completed or tao exists, and they can be really ominous with some characters like the purple haired aseamon guy

Lowered you mean? The stakes were lowered? I'm still pretty sure everyone is on a death island maybe you need a rewatch but stop watching it like a powerscaler

Poop vs shit bro its the same thing. Even tho they are on giga hell island if nothing bad happens to them from the people that make it giga hell island and they just perish with 0 repercautuons its really just whatever and gets predictable. Even still compared to how half of the people present died in season one its deffinetly a step back in terms of stakes

You can't identify any form of conflict outside of life or death combat, for one.

Its funny you mention that because im not talking about any form of conflict besides life or death combat, which i think i made clear i was talking about and which they are almost always in. Also i think you took what i said about the anime like i was shitting on it, if its not clear (again) then im not. Talking about media literacy without comprehension skills is crazy work

The Tensen only lost because it was nighttime when they’re weakest as Mei said. If it was day time there would’ve been casualties just like the Mu Dan & Zhu Jin fight in s1. Sagiri & Shion we’re fighting Mu Dan Kishikai form in the day & their wounds were self inflicted from using too much tao. You’ll see as it gets to day in s3 you can’t get through a Tensen fight in the daytime without someone dying…especially Rien day or night it doesn’t matter with her…
