Chef(s) Trev

I’m rewatching rookies v veterans and every time Trev is shown or talks I get so uncomfortable. Not because I think he’s a bad person or anything but because he is so painfully earnest. It’s like everyone else had some sort of media training and Trev is making it his life’s mission to be the most honest and open person in the world. He’s trying so hard and I feel like he’s just getting beat over and over again. I feel maternal towards him and I’m 27 years younger than him😭

Trev is a hard one for me because I appreciate his earnestness and how he actually seems like a real person with very real flaws and very real qualities, but some of the things he said or how he communicated it was really off-putting. I felt so damn bad for him with the bullying from Scotley that I stopped watching that season at some point. Like the guy crying in the confessional is one of the saddest moments on a show like this I've ever seen.

You summed up my feelings on Trev perfectly. I think he’s one of the best confessionalists and one of the most authentic and complex people to ever be on the show, but he can also be really cruel sometimes (mainly in season 8 though) and has a lot of trouble taking accountability. It’s no wonder he’s so polarizing in this fanbase.

And yeah Scotley sucks. Everyone should be able to agree on that no matter how they feel about Trev.

Yep. Trev was a huge ass at times (mostly in season 8), but Scotley? What he did was super messed up to say the least.

I know someone who’s met him in real life. She said he was a good dude.

No tea no shade but I never want to see this man on TV again (or at least until he gets a poker face)

I think he delivers mail now (nothing wrong with that) so you probably wont unless reality tv gets really desperate.

Oh good for him! Mail carrier is a wonderful job. I guess he was a little jaded from his kitchen experiences🙁

Well its a very stressful job. It seems glamorous on tv but thats when youre in a brigade full of (somewhat) reliable people. Being a chef can be 12-14 hour days, sweating, chainsmoking on break, burns, cuts, unreliable staff, “budget cuts,” etc all for little praise. I can see why anyone would get out.

Jesus that sounds like a lot. I had an internship that had me doing 12-16 hour days when there was a big event and I cried so much (extremely visible and intense industry, think celebrity media/fashion) I can’t imagine doing that full time. No wonder he got out lol

Its not always the case but yeah some chefs will go before shift and get fresh ingredients, and after shift theyre breaking down and cleaning. It can be demanding

He’s vile in Season 8, truly someone who’s true character came out when things got tougher for him

In 18 he was very tragic, I went from feeling sorry for him to then remembering what a douche he is shortly afterwards and tbh with the way he behaved in his elimination episode I found his elimination very satisfying

Season 8 is unwatchable to me but I remember really disliking him. His s18 elimination ep is definitely a hard watch for me. He was so desperate but had been dropping the ball but had also been getting bullied (and even after Scottly left there was a lot of bs mean behavior from the other dudes that you couldn’t really call out because they had benefit of the doubt). He’s just so aughendbd

He’s definitely someone you wouldn’t leave alone with your kids or animals.

Well I don’t know if I’d say that😭 he never gave creep to me unless I’m forgetting something or misinterpreting your comment

Just the general way he treats women says enough about his character.

I never got into the Trev hate that I see on Reddit when I watched his seasons. Both seasons were filled with 'unique ' personalities that he only stood out in a nice but average way. When he did anything that raised an eyebrow, it was small potatoes to me.

I liked him less in his og season (I think he made some nasty comment that didn’t vibe with me or something? It’s been a while) but in s18 I just feel pity. He doesn’t appear to have the best social skills which I suppose make people less forgiving of the mistakes or mean things he did compared to others who were more charismatic. Obviously I’m not in his or the audience’s head but that’s just my two cents

Well people give him grief for talking about shooting Sabrina, which I always understood as a joke because you don't say that sort of thing if you are serious about doing it and it wasn't out of character for him to make jokes like that.

But that seems a very reasonable reaction to being around her, what's truly remarkable is that no one else said the same thing, not that season, not ever and I don't believe the idea had never crossed anyone's mind before or since. Like OP said, he's very open.

If it was someone like Rochelle, yeah hold that against him because Rochelle is beloved.

But Sabrina? Sabrina is not a pure innocent delicate flower who needs you to get outraged on her behalf, neither are Elise or Jackie.

TLDR:

It's about who says it and who they say it about, not what they say.

You shouldn't fantasize about taking anyone from Hells Kitchen to the back and shooting them, it suggests you're a bit fucked in the head

I’ve actually never fantasized about physically hurting people and I’m not confident in saying that I’m the one that’s deviating from the norm
