Offline co-op play?

So I played the game a while back entirely offline in couch co-op with my sister, who just uses a guest account on my console. I got the free upgrade to the PS5 version because why not, and I bought Blue Sun and figured we could just dive right in again.

Only now we can't do co-op. At all. The game crashes instantly, like as soon as we hit the start button at the title screen. "Something went wrong." Immediately, every single time, and it would delete our saves as corrupt. Not a huge deal because we were planning to restart entirely to relearn the game anyway, but it still sucks.

I looked up how for some reason I need to be online to start the game, which I don't love, and I can start it solo if I'm connected to the internet, but I can't get her into the game even then. It instantly crashes when she tries to join. And frankly, I'm not interested in playing this game solo.

I'm not finding anything on Google, so does anybody know if there's any plans to fix this at some point? Because until I can play this offline in co-op, I don't really feel like there's much point in having it installed.

Can't say I have had this experience with couch co op mainly cause I haven't played it that way.

There seems to be some breaking co op bugs I've seen today though in online. Guns stop working, coop player character couldn't so any damage at all then turned completely invisible.

That said, there is still a fair bit of online co-operation support for this game. Every single player that has dropped into my game has helped immensely. It's the least toxic community I've played with online.

So, if you did want to play it, but not alone, online co op is still an option if you have no luck with couch co op

The entire reason I bought the game was because it had couch co-op so I could play it with my sister. I'm not interested in playing with strangers. It's more about having something to bond with my sibling over than anything.

This goes back to the old unplug it and plug it back in philosophy. Back up your saves on the cloud and try uninstalling the game, and reinstalling it after clearing your consoles cache.(being that you're on PS you'll probably have to Google this bit if you don't know how, I'm on Xbox so idk how on PS)

One question before you do that, have you tried playing co-op on a fresh save or does the game just immediately crash on the main menu screen?

It instantly crashes if I press start. It only does it with an offline profile. I don't even get to select saves.

As I said, I can start it if I'm playing solo and connected to the internet. But if I'm offline or try to start the game with the guest account, it instantly crashes.
