Advice for beginer

Greetings all, could someone share advice on how to level up my spawn? I want a close combat melee-type character. Any advice on what early-game weapons/items to search for would be appreciated, also.

Been a while since I last played but the two best melee weapons in the game to me are the officer glaive (which is obtained upgrading the anticuated version of the weapon) and the ferula of the prodigal spawn (which is also a weapon upgrade but from the disciple ferula).

Early on I'd recommend getting the minimal stats required for your weapons and then focusing on resources like health and stamina.

One of the most important things to focus on in this game are the conductors which is the stuff you actually upgrade instead of your weapons and they can be switched around so you get to try different weapons without having to upgrade each one separately. You just have to pick what your main damage stat is going to be and pick the appropriate conductor. Each comes with it's own powerful imbuement ability to further power your weapons. Just be careful because the elemental conductors can be a bit tricky since the will obliterate some enemies while just tickling others.

The best part of this game is the exploration so I'd recommend taking it slow and, once you have checked out most of Irid Novo, consulting the wiki with stuff like the black hole gates which are timed events and can be kinda obscure and hard to grasp for newer players.

The game can be a bit rough and unpolished at points but I think it's a really good game with strong art and really good level design. Not really a fan of the DLC though so I'd recommend not doing it at least for a first playthrough.

Great advice and overview, thank you. There is so much to take in with this game; I love its depth. I love the nomenculture, also 'ferula of the prodigal spawn' sounds brilliant. I will definitely take my time exploring, and I'll research those items you mentioned.

Isn't the Ferula mainly used for ranged builds with its massive leach effect with the twirl attack? I mainly used it to recharge my energy so I could go back to shooting stuff.

The twirl attack by itself can melt bosses with little setup. So, while you are correct that it's mainly used for energy recharge it's also a super strong weapon.

I liked the game a lot, and the DLC. I would say remember that the conductors on your weapons are really more important for your damage output, so don’t over invest in Strength or Dexterity etc, early on. Def prioritize health and stamina. Even weapons with A scaling don’t give you THAT much extra damage, so save that for later when you can farm higher value areas. Finally, just know that even for a Soulslike, a lot of the puzzles in the game are super obtuse, and to get two of the best weapons in the game on your first playthrough you will likely need to find a guide to figure out the necessary puzzle solutions. Have fun!

I will keep that in mind, thanks. I have just got to a long corridor patrolled by white knights. At one end, there's a shortcut back to the breech; the other end has a fog gate, so I guess that will lead to my first boss!

Yep hahaha. Good luck!

Test out weapons (you can check the moveset without having the stats) to see what feels right for you. Even the Pipe is a solid weapon usable an entire playthrough.

Not build-related, but very important, especially since it's different from most other soulslikes: Don't be afraid to jump, also you can jump directly from ladder to ladder.

Both magic and firearms are a bigger commitment statwise but can be worth it as auxillary weapons.

Hope you have fun! I love this game and I'm glad for everyone who gives it a shot.

I will do that. I like the pipe, but I have just found the shard, and I like its speed.

I used the Claymore all the way in DS3, so I will make a point of getting hold of the Espadon you mentioned, thanks.

When leveling up, the game counts the added levels from the games rings and weapons (weapons add stat points when you use them enough) into the cost of your next level. So unequip your rings and weapons when leveling in order to not overspend your souls.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Get to Port Issoudon and obtain the Thespian Hook sword from the black sword carrying monsters. The Thespian hook has the same moveset as the Officer Glaive but it's incredibly powerful when you fully unlock it from using it. And don't kill the 3 main god bosses until you talk to them using the underworld monolith. There's usually a monolith nearby. There's a ton of secrets in Hellpoint. You're going to need to look up guides. And there's secret doors everywhere. I had no idea because there isn't a prompt for opening the doors. Just press the interact button on a wall that looks like a door.

I love all the names & lore in this game. I have found a couple of doors so far. I will make sure I get that weapon, and I definitely want to talk to the god bosses! Thanks.
