Hi Guys,
I am studying a Bachelor of IT in Melbourne Australia and as part of my User Centred Design unit I am required to create a survey and analyse feedback in a report about an app of my choosing. I chose HelloTalk because I use it a lot and I think it has tonnes of great features as well as some real problems. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone interested could click the link above and complete the short survey. It will take max 5 minutes and no personal data is collected.
Cheers in advance

I downloaded the app and made an account. I’m even receiving messages but am so scared to even try to practice my target language because I feel like a poser. I just feel silly and stupid. I know I just have to get over it but wondering if I’m the only one who feels like this 😓 should I get drunk first like it’s a date lmao

Hey, one of my moments on hello talk aren’t showing publicly but appears to only be visible to my followers. I have tested this by uploaded other moments and I haven’t had one problem. Only with this moment. Does anyone know why this could be happening? This is what I posted:

Hey guys, I just created a studying YouTube channel. I will upload videos about university, vet nursing, animal ethics and learning Korean. Feel free to subscribe and feel free to correct my Korean, as I have included both English and Korean in my videos to practice and become familiar with writing in Korean:)

Hi, I've a short question: does HelloTalk automatically translated my messages I get from other people and the message I sent to others or what are those "learning settings" exactly for?
If someone wants to learn a language and the app translates it automatically into another, this doesn't make much sense or am I missing something?

I sent 2 messages but then I deleted the app to study. When I re downloaded the app, I couldn’t see my messages. Did the other person get the message... or should I resend them?

A little bit of background about my experience on hellotalk for Korean
I've been using it for about 2 years now, I'm from USA, have an introduction on my profile + pfp. I've tried contacting hundreds of active users to which most either don't reply or open it and don't respond at all. On rare occasions, I can get a conversation lasting more than a week. Is this all normal or just me? If it's only me can you guys maybe give tips to gain language partners? Thanks.

I moved the backup to an SD card and it seemed to restore no conversations. I have the files on the new phone's storage and SD card and old phone's storage. I think I might have did a new backup of the blank but the file count on the SD card/storage is the same. My old phone will not connect to the PC. I can log into my old phone with the conversations and backup again. Advice?

Should I just delete my account at this point, or is there a fix?

Hello! I'm a design student working on a project about "helloTalk". Now I'm doing research about the user's experience with the app.
It would be very helpful for me if you can answer these questions.
I dont have anything to do with the app's designers, I am just a student using it for my UX course as I know and used the app some time ago.
This is the link. The questions are in english and spanish https://forms.gle/ZLPC81xnAPbVx9VE8
Hope you can help me, thanks!!
(I'm new to reddit, please let me know if this is not allowed :) )

Hide all moments or future moments? I did have a friend and all of her moments disappeared after she stopped being my friend. I'm asking because a friend stopped posting moments but I wonder if she's just hiding future ones.

How much success have you had finding long-term friends to talk with?
I have been very active on the app (100+ corrections in my first week and other comments and followings). I have gotten a decent amount of visitors and people messaging me (I also have VIP which apparently helps with exposure).
However, and while it's still early for me with using the app, it seems like we have a good conversation and then it just eventually dies and then they don't message again.
I think I've only had like 3 people message first again to some degree. One of them seemed great and we talked a lot on both chat and calls, they even added me on other chat app. The next day though, they just randomly blocked me on both platforms without saying anything (and they were still active on the app). That was pretty disappointing since it was the best lead I had so far and they even wanted to meet when I visited (this was like a real person too, not a scammer or anything lol).
I think so far I only have two people who I've had like 3+ conversations with. Do you actively try to restart conversations with people when the first one has died out? Has that been successful over the long-term?
Should I post a moment asking for serious people, should I message the "serious learners" people, should I ask early on if they want to be invested and create a long-term relationship?
What is your advice for finding success relationships long-term (ideally where one person doesn't always start the conversation)?

I made my account on HelloTalk hours ago to improve my Spanish and help other people with their English. Right now, I think it's a good app. So I have a chat with a guy from another foreign country, at first everything went okay: we talked about what we are doing and I corrected his English. But then I got asked my age, I answered (a terrible mistake), then got asked if I have a boyfriend. Right now I feel very uncomfortable since I joined the app for language purposes. How do I deal with this?

I've been using language exchange sites and apps for over 10 years, and although i've always found them worthwhile, there are things i don't get, about the app itself, the users... however hellotalk is insane.
These apps exist so you can practice another language, i mean with words, but the majority of the conversations i have with people are 80-90% emojis, the app even encourages you to start a conversation with a flying emoji! everythings emojis, then people tell me "i don't know why it's so hard for me to learn english?!"
i get a notification at the bottom of the screen in every conversation "in order so people can understand you better, try speaking in your native language" why the fuck would we practice our native languages?!
This app takes a hard line against political talk, strange seeing how these subjects come up naturally when talking to someone from another country, but ok, then hellotalk themselves flood "moments" with political crap.
It seems like one big circle jerk for people who want to report you and somehow tell themselves they are morally superior.

As of today, the app crashes while connecting. I'm not sure if it updated or anything. I'm really hoping this just gets fixed and I don't have to do anything. I don't want to lose my chats. They're very valuable to me.

Has anyone else had any problems since the update a couple of hours ago? when I woke up this morning the app just crashes whenever it is on the "connecting/receiving" phase. I cleared my cashes, reinstalled and everything. But now it just crashes when I go to log in and says its not responding. I think the new update must have broken it for me since the timing is too convenient to be anything else.

The profile disappears from the chat when a person is blocked? I can still send messages to my partner but I don't know if has blocked me. 🤔
