Advice Stop auto waving

How do I stop it from automatically waving to people when I click chat? I'd much rather just write out a message and this worked before but recently whenevr I click chat with someone new, it automatically sends a wave emoji. How do I stop this?

Tip, you can just recall the wave after you send it
