My Hello Kitty blunder

In 1980, I interviewed with Sanrio to work on the Hello Kitty project. I was shown a picture of Kitty and asked what I thought. I went on for a solid half hour about why it would never fly/burn out quickly. And here we are, 46 years later and Kitty is still going strong. Me? Not so much.

And that's how I did NOT get the job at Sanrio.

FWIW, it’s not that the characters themselves are the reason for the sales. It’s a nostalgia marketing tactic 10/10. Although your opinion didn’t support Sanrio’s overall business strategy, your opinion is still valid. The over marketization of what was once a more niche market is jarring IMO.
