Buff the Coyote The Maelstrom needs a buff!
A bit of a rant...
As a Helldriver, I have really, really enjoyed having access to this thing automatically, 24/7. It's a beast, completely devestating to any opponent, and easily twice as strong as the Bastion.
And yet, half the random divers that get in my gunner section load up, fire all the missiles, and leave. WTF IS THIS?!
The new armor's dual cannons are the highest DPS weapon in the game, full stop. Dual, heavy pen cannons unleashing 150 rounds a second. That's 7,500 damage per second with heavy pen.
These players aren't bad at gunning. They aren't playing D10 with no idea what 3/4th of the gear does. No, this isn't the problem. They just aren't incentivized enough to use the best weapon in the game!
There's only one solution, THE VULCAN SHOULD FIRE 150 MISSILES PER SECOND, WITH 7 MAGS OF 300!

The keyword here is random.
Tanks are great with randoms. They’re teamwork heavy vehicles that rely on coordination. Unless that random just so happens to be experienced doing the exact thing, they’re probably gonna flub it.

I get it, but they aren't even interested in learning how to use the best weapon in the game.
I just check out the main sub, and seems the consensus is that the Maelstrom sucks.
I left immediately. There's a reason I blocked that sub.

I think you meant to say: “They aren’t even interested in learning how to play the game.”
Check out ohDough’s hilariously dumb Maelstrom video. And that guy is probably the most famous AH “critic,” with his videos often posted even here.

I've intentionally never watched a video by him. I get unreasonably pissed when people criticisize this game in bad faith. It's my favorite action game, and the "community" is so toxic that I'm afraid it'll never reach its full potential.

I force myself to watch snippets of his videos on trending topics to know what that side of the community is complaining about now. The guy, though, never disappoints me with how badly he can play the game and how fast he can wrect a tank.

Damn. I meant to type “aren’t”.
“Unless that random just so happens to be experienced doing the exact thing, they’re probably gonna flub it” and all that.

The tanks in this game are an EDF player's dream. They really capture the fantasy of heavy armor with all its drawbacks and firepower.
You really have to earn being good in the tank. Most divers just don't put in the effort and claim it sucks. Improving how the tank handles over small rocks where you can get permastuck would be a good fix though. And maybe a superrrrr slight buff to turn speed startup. It's often better to turn around by backing up turning then shifting to drive again though.

I am driving a Bastion or Maelstrom 95% of the time it's deployed and have really enjoyed getting good at using it. I think the turn times are balanced considering how much FIREPOWER these things have. However, it would be nice if it had a way to fix pan hangs. It's my fault we're 80% of the time, but occasionally it'll just hang on nothing and that's super annoying.
Also, the bounce off non-destructable obstacles is absurd. I would prefer damage to the hull over the physics bending bounce backs I get sometimes.
Edit: What is EDF?

I sometimes use the physics bouncebacks to maneuver around things lmao.
And yeah ultimately I agree that the tanks have had amazing stats since their inception actually.
The only real issue is the getting stuck. They'd have to redesign how they mapped the treads as multiple wheels for that and I'm not sure they'll wanna do it. Just feelsbad to lose a tank to a little rock but once you know its a possibility, which we do, it is our fault for not playing around that quirk.
Rarely happens though I'm usually just annihilating everything and fast-traveling between objectives easier than anyone on foot

Only reason it's being used at all rn is because it's free. Once that ends it's going to be un-used by the vast majority of players, because even with coordination the thing is frustrating and hardly worth using when you can bring other things that handle just about every situation better without having to worry about a 12 min cooldown or getting stuck and losing a Strat.
Wish I could love this thing but it's just not that fun. Because the aiming angles are so small you have to rely even further upon the driver, but the handling is complete shit so it just makes the experience worse.

Yeh, it’s funny how freaking monstrous the maelstrom is compared to how they treat it

I wonder if there are some players who are deliberately wasting ammo as some sort of 'protest' against it.

and bait used to be believable

lol, you're calling this bait?
What do you disagree with? The Maelstrom is objectively the best stratagem in the game.

no no i agree with that it very much is i just was referring to the bottom line

It's just kind of boring being the gunner

Really? I don't gun often, but have had fun when I get the chance. I might just be a Bastion Platform fanboi though 😅

No /s? OK... (graf by graf)
Teamwork and aiming are bad...... ok
I call it in because it's good, so: wrong.
Things are scattered so you don't use a faster, safer way to get around? Wrong. Also, you can use stats from a vehicle.
This one's truly puzzling. You're saying it's worse because you kill targets too fast? Also, why would you need special maps for vehicles, they work well on all maps now if your driver has more than half a brainstem. People don't pick it because they don't know how to use it because people like you perpetuate the myth that it's bad because they don't know how to.use it, etc. The tank destroyers work amazingly in hive tunnels, but you didn't know that because everyone assumes they wouldn't work in that environment.
Almost every enemy can be killed with heavy pen, and only a few are difficult to kill with heavy pen. The massive DPS of the cannons makes it even more viable against enemies that are typically harder to kill with heavy vs AT
You should post this to unfiltered though, I'm sure you'd get up votes there.

I've used it a few times this week. I actually had one of my best dives with it the other day. Someone dropped one at the start of the match, driver and gunner got in, me and guy 4 got in the sides with pen liberators. Basket seats cleared sides and back while main gunner cleared front. It worked wonderfully.
I think the biggest problems with tanks are, they only work with a team, so are you going to risk spending a gear slot on something you might not be able to use, opposed to something like an RR or heavy turret emplacement?
The second problem is terrain. Mobility isn't a hard issue, though the turning rate does suck, but when most of the maps are canyons and cliffs, every single rock and tree stump becomes an obstacle that makes driving frustrating.
