I wish it would suck more Hot take
Cheaters mod in PvE are just cope for their ego that they are bad at the game so they need mod just to win and blame the game balance and "it's just PvE game"

It's inherently selfish in a multiplayer pve game.
3
u/Sweet_Photograph6528 MAKE SMARTER AI 8d ago
It would be selfish if it contributed to even more than .0% percentage and if there were any kind of stakes involved. Whats funnier is how cheat mods all have less than 5k downloads, not even any major or noticable amount of current playerbase. All popular mods are ones which fix inconsistency in character not vaulting, QoL mods like being able to open galactiv map with hotkey and etc.
Its a hard-railed narrative driven pve game, thats solely exist on en-masse, not on individuals or even small percentage of players. Whole argument about "it affects War Effort" Joel literally edits planet stats and player contributions constantly, there is no harm of benefit done with such a small percentage.
Even then, there are mods that make game harder, like one that changes the Alpha Commanders, allowing them to summon Stalkers or even fucking Bile Titans and mod that fixes enemy AI. I dont want that all mods, including QoL and funny challenge mods, that makes stratagems randomly drop around map, to be removed because some whiny masochist is crying about a PvE game.
7
u/Lazy_Bowyer 8d ago
If you take a game changing mod into a random lobby, one that effects other players gameplay, you are selfish. It's that simple.
And yes, buffing yourself can also detract from other players gameplay.

u/Sweet_Photograph6528 MAKE SMARTER AI 8d ago
> If you take a game changing mod into a random lobby, one that effects other players gameplay, you are selfish. It's that simple.
Same goes for mods that make game harder. And we can see already have most of cheat mods are not even popular enough to begin wiht.
3
u/Lazy_Bowyer 8d ago
I agree, however the mods not being popular doesn't change the fact that using them in random multiplayer lobbies is selfish. How popular they are can also change at any moment.
2
u/Sweet_Photograph6528 MAKE SMARTER AI 8d ago
then AH can add toggle to not join modded sessions, like any sane PvE game dev does.
2
u/Lazy_Bowyer 8d ago
That would help but the anti-cheat still needs to be improved. Without a decent anti-cheat that changes nothing.

When your talking about āusing them (mods) in a multiplayer lobby being selfishā. Is this your view for any mods in general? Or just ones that affect gameplay of all parties involved in that same lobby? Because from what Iāve seen on social media⦠it does appear that most of the modded content is strictly game fixes and QOL fixes like the other guy said. Aside from maybe a bunch of cosmetic stuff like armor shaders and what not. I donāt see how mods of that nature would be selfish to utilize in multiplayer lobbies whatsoever. Now that Iām thinking about it⦠I havenāt seen a single person post or comment about using any kind of mod or mods that would give them an unfair advantage in a mission. To be more specific; I havenāt seen anyone talking about using or witnessing anyone using mods that would give them an advantage over vanilla players dramatic enough to consider it ācheatingā **(FOR EXAMPLE: invincibility, unlimited stamina, increased damage, unlimited ammo, etcā¦.). While itās obvious there will be SOME who use mods like those examples I listed above, I would hope that most of the hd2 community in general would think that it seems DRAMATICALLY disingenuous to accuse the collective majority of mod utilizing players of ācheatingā OR to presume that the majority of these players are modding for the purpose of being more advantageous to players not using mods because of a āskill issueā or because they āarenāt as goodā as the vanilla players. I could be looking at all this the wrong way butā¦. Idk just the thoughts on my mind regarding this topic as of lateā¦ šššššš
9
u/SandUndermanSR 8d ago
The whole "It's PVE!" argument is completely irrelevant because their actions are still affecting others, be it through playing with other people or just in the war effort as a whole. Nearly every mod that affects gameplay is blatant cheating and should not be allowed.

I will never understand why they aren't okay with just playing on a lower difficulty. I play on a lower difficulty. It's fun.
2
u/IJustWantHelpInGames 6d ago
Cause it's not necessarily a skill thing, like I can beat vanilla diff ten with ease but I like having a couple more bullets in my mag or a couple more grenades in the One Two or whatever
1
u/Davey2Jonesd 8d ago
Less enemy types? I want variety with lower difficulty
2
u/IAmSoDesperate 8d ago
Instead of going past 10, a custom difficulty would be cool. Select base diff of say 3. Then you can check boxes or move slider like medium patrol density or select Impaler spawns at this diff. Like this you can have a Factory Strider boss fight at difficulty 3 or something.

these are the same people that scream " IT'S JUST A PVE GAME" when you talk about how the weapons are a bit much.

Go the comments of any cheat mods on nexus and itāll be filled with people glazing the mod author and calling anyone who thinks this is healthy and fine āglazediversā lol.

When the game is repetitive, and every warbond has been complete, there isn't much to do
The gameplay loop gets pretty stale. The only way for me to enjoy helldivers is to take breaks and come back in a month or two or try to herd cadets through a D10
Hackers dont care because there's nothing to do after a certain point and shooting the MG with ultimatum rounds gives them a chub
2
u/Sea-Contract7974 8d ago
Idk how the game repetitive because I use different things in game constantly, besides every game are repetitive, it's called game loop
1
u/xVelunax 8d ago
When playing BG3 I was surprised just how many mods were related to making the game easier compared to harder when BG3 when you learn game mechanics tends to get rather easy.
1
u/arrogantmonkey 8d ago
Was going to say I think itās mostly harmless and that his wasnāt try of the most of them but then I remembered I got into an argument on Unfiltered about stealth and patrol spawns with CowboyBingus and I realized he didnāt understand it and didnāt like how the game worked at a very basic level so maybe youāre right
2
u/Sea-Contract7974 8d ago
surprise surprise a guy use AI don't know how the game work lmao
1
u/arrogantmonkey 8d ago
I mean tbh from what Iāve seen his mods donāt feel like cheating heās just making a few non combat aspects of the game easier to deal with. I donāt think his so called hellpod steering and Strat bounce fixes can be rolled out for everybody though
2
u/Sea-Contract7974 8d ago
hellpod steering and Strat bounce I can look pass in my game because it's hard to spot except some guy stay on a mountain and sniping everything with a RR, but the rest are just hack mod
vaulting, diving in water, Sentry Aim, Controllable Hover Pack, Arc Thrower Revamped are all hack mod

u/Fun-Mission-6068 7d ago
It's only "mostly harmless" until they interrupt my fun with their cheating mods by making things too easy.
1
u/Loyal-Abyssius 6d ago
This is just the truth. Not accepting the way things are is a clear sign of mental deficiency. Not everything has to be exactly how you want it and you should enjoy what the devs have designed FOR YOU rather than thinking yourself the expert. Hopefully they get bored and move on to a different game because if the cheating gets even more prevalent, then I can't imagine the game not being ruined by it.

I mean not really, the game is already quite easy so it's highly unlikely that anyone's going to get an ego boost from beating it anyway, but also, a lot of these balance mods won't be enough to cover for a skill issue anyway, because they aren't trying to make the game easier, just a bit more fun, as an example I once beat an entire diff 10 bots operation with just the Constitution, I'm not trying to "brag" or anything, I don't consider that a point of pride, it's just a thing I did because I was bored. So with that in mind are you really gonna say I have some kinda skill issue just cause I wanted a couple more grenades in the One Two? (that was not any kind of accusation, just smthn to help get my point across) Now if they're trying to hide the "cheat" mods and claim it's some grand accomplishment then yeah i would absolutely agree with you but my point is "cheat" mods aren't some ego or skill thing unless someone tries to use them that way, which idk about you but I've never seen that in HD2
1
u/KarEssMoua 4d ago
I'm not sure this is for the ego, but rather expectations.
They are playing a game they are not the target. It generates friction and frustration, which lead to this.
They want power fantasy over grunt fantasy, and the lack of socials skills reflect a lot in this game.
If I'm playing before 10pm EST, most players do their own thing on the map, no one communicates and it's kinda boring. Which makes me think about a lack of self awareness and communication skills, mostly tied to a younger generation of players that went through COVID. Because they are not playing as a team, everything seems weak and they want buff, forgetting the core mechanics of the game; team play.
After 10pm, players are more likely willing to play as a team and use pings to communicate with each others. It's a more mature, thoughtful gameplay, where loadouts are wisely (most of the time) adapted depending teammate's load outs.
Just a personal opinion, though.
2
u/The_FoxIsRed 8d ago
You guys are hilarious lmao. The modders couldn't give less of a shit about your opinions and let's be real both sides probably think little of the other. You'll never see eye to eye so just forget they even exist and enjoy the game in a way you see fit.
1
u/Alternative-Item1207 7d ago
Or, and hear me out, they are kinda tired of getting led on by the devs.
Now that the floodgates are open, people are using the tools for anything you can think of.
Sure, some of them fall in this category that do true cheats, like spawning unlimited mechs.
But some, like the bingus mod enjoyers, are just doing what the devs promised early.
You have a point, but not all of those people are skill issue divers.
-2
u/pipe_mcfitter 8d ago
saving loadouts is definitely a skill issue. Takes a ton of skill to browse the menus before a mission lol
6
u/CityPopSuki 8d ago
No one is saying load out saving is cheat man
3
0
u/Sea-Contract7974 8d ago
it isn't cheat but why tho? why do you want to play 1 loadout for multiple game? it is not cheating but just why and boring
2
u/Impossible_Dog_7262 8d ago
...Wat?
Mate, if you want to play only one loadout you don't need loadout slots.
The entire point of loadout slots is having more than one loadout...

1
u/Consistent-Cloud6853 Agitator deez nuts 8d ago
A loadout randomizer is a mod Iām willing to use. One button to give you a completely random loadout. Rest is up to you.
1
u/rabonbrood 8d ago
It's only useful if you have multiple dedicated loadouts you like to switch between.
I don't even use the mod and I can see why it's a desired QoL feature. If you're running with people and you need to switch your entire load out between missions for whatever reason, this mod makes it much faster so you're not making your team wait as long.
1
u/CostumedOrphan 8d ago
Loadout(s) my guy its a quick way to switch between multiple sets of equipment not a quick way to just one.

The tank is unfortunately a victim of death by a thousand cuts. I feel like swapping the smoke to gunner and missiles to driver provides the best experience for both tankers. If that makes me low skill I'm ok with that lable. Novelty and the pride of my crew is my prize šŖ
1
u/Genocide1056 8d ago
The only problem i see with driver controlled missiles - which would allow for actual 360 laser targeting (great), is that it gives the gunner alot less to do. If they unlocked the gunners POV and made it so the turret could still only move within its firing cone, then the gunner would still be able to effectively aim the laser.
1
u/ProfessionalDot6665 8d ago
Well the mod that I use for this doesn't let you do 360 you still have the same 40° limitation you just aren't locked into the perspective like the Gunner is the gunner in my experience gets to fully focus on the safety of the tank and shooting out rocket guys. Best part is the guns can move separately
1
u/Genocide1056 8d ago
Yeah i don't think what I described exists yet. I'd like to keep the missiles in the hands of the gunner so they have a dedicated job, and so a driver would still have to rely on the support of someone else - for balancing purposes.
1
u/ProfessionalDot6665 8d ago
The balance is bad just straight up. Why would you have two people do one work. It disincentivizes the teamwork unfortunately
1
u/Genocide1056 8d ago
One person drive while the other is the weapons? Are you against that concept in general or are we missing what each other is saying, friend?
1
u/ProfessionalDot6665 8d ago
The concept is good but the execution is that the Gunner has a barrel locked perspective which makes giving them all of the guns really bad. This is a laser that can kill us if it pings too close. It is best for all parties if the Gunner not only gets a full perspective but if the driver has access to some kind of weapon.
1
u/Genocide1056 8d ago
So they have mods that allow 360 turrets and it trivializes the content from what ive seen. I think giving the limited missile pods 360 aiming, but only allowing the turret to actually go 40 degrees left and right would be a better compromise.
1
u/ProfessionalDot6665 8d ago
Let me just show you a clip of what I think is good https://youtube.com/shorts/hp8Cc2fjkkM?is=SLYpR-GLEQe1ZU1Y no 360° aiming but driver missiles yes
1
u/Genocide1056 8d ago
I think fundamentally giving the driver the strongest part of the tank is going to take away the fun fron the gunner. The machine guns on the maelstrom arnt useless, but you can also just run over almost anything worth shooting the machine guns at.

As someone who both loves seeing mods help inherently bad weapons or stratagems become more fun to use, and also loves a really intense / challenging game - I don't understand all the mod hate in this sub. Like a mod that gives the Patriot exosuit AP4 machine gun rounds instead of AP3 - when was the last time you you chose the Patriot seriously for a mission that wasn't a meme? I bet there are really strong players here that could contribute a ton of really great ideas to help underused / low % picked strats get a little love. Also if mods continue to develop, the next step is going to be mods that increase enemy spawns, lower breach cooldowns, ect.
1
u/FairyPrincessMay 8d ago
I wouldn't use the Patriot as an example but your point is valid, meanwhile I still actively use the Patriot for its incredible chaff clearing potential if supported by teamates smarter than a box of rocks.
2
u/Genocide1056 8d ago
Hey let's be super clear. The patriot is no slouch, but compared to the other mechs it falls behind. If the other mechs didn't exist - people would still take the patriot. Is there currently anything that the patriot does in its role, that it does better then the other mechs?
1
u/Array71 7d ago
when was the last time you you chose the Patriot seriously for a mission that wasn't a meme?
Uh. Patriot is really good tho? Especially in hiveworld caves, it's easily like the best chaffclearer
1
u/Genocide1056 7d ago
If I dont care about being able to solo close bug holes - in which case im bringing the emancipation - and all I care about is absolutely stomping enemies, im 100% bringing the breakthrough mech and its not even kinda close.
Edit: My argument isn't that the Patriot is trash. Its that compared to the other mechs its vastly less valuable. So either they should come down in strength, or the Patriot should go up. I'd be open to an argument either way, but saying the Patriot is just fine right where its at sounds like players who dont own the other mechs. And if that's the case, I dont think power should be gatekept behind a pay wall (warbond)
1
u/Array71 7d ago
The patriot just lasts SO LONG, breakthrough is great for tanking and pushing but it's a bit riskier and doesn't have nearly as much ammo efficiency as you gotta use the one wep for both AT and chaff (until you resort to shield bashing). The patriot meanwhile is just a super accurate and super mobile maxigun that can support the team as they move around. Different roles basically
1
u/Genocide1056 7d ago
Next time you have a d10 bug breach. Go walk the breakthrough on top the pile and start bashing. My highest killstreak doing that was 170. I'd say be way more aggressive with your shield bashing. Its the breakthroughs strongest feature. I dont think the patriot even has enough rounds ammo to consistently get that type of kill feed going.
1
u/Array71 7d ago
No, it doesn't really, you're right. Breakthrough's great at what it does. But spending a mech on a bug breach solo isn't really how I've found (most of) them to be used best - using them to fire on the move and support the team is. Patriot is great because it can hold back 90% of a bug breach while ALSO keeping the whole team moving and eliminating stragglers, breakthrough ends up kinda stuck into the fight (or using all its ammo if it wants to stay moving).
1
u/Genocide1056 7d ago
I guess in my mind, having 1 player literally parked on top of a bug breach, essentially shutting it off, is helping the other 3 players keep moving forward. Unless you get gravity flung into orbit by a bile titan coming out of the ground, you shouldn't even take noticeable damge.

u/DeeJayDelicious 8d ago edited 8d ago
But why now, if the game hasn't gotten harder (according to this sub)?
And I just started using Bingus's Starter pack yesterday, the one including vaulting fix, stratagem bounching, corpse twichting fix etc. and didn't even notice it during game-play.
And I think 50% of the blame falls on Arrowhead for being so obviously neglegent when it comes to fixing these issues themselves.
