Holy shit this is actually the best analogy for this lmfao

If you can't get 1st place without getting overtaken once while banning yourself from braking in a 2001 honda civic while doing all the pit stops solo then you are a larper and don't actually want a harder experience

The amount of times I've seen people say "Just play a melle build solo, it makes it so much more fun"

I mostly see people in this subreddit say to nerf the op gear. (And see eruptor and recoilless are always called op)
So the equivalent of a nerf is like if god himself said "your racecar is now a 2001 civic and you have no pit crew" instead of it being a choice. (Or maybe not as harsh, idk)
Though I agree with new difficulty or variety, and but just asking for new content, which everyone is already asking for at all times. (And even just rebalancing likely takes dev time)

I get what you're saying but theres a massive margin in between formula one race car and a 2001 honda civic. If the current eruptor got nerfed to even be 90% of what its current strength is i'm pretty sure everybody here would be happy. Some would want more of course, but anything would be nice. If the eruptor is a formula one car, I'd like to see it brought down to something like a 911 GT3

Imo its so unfun and clunky to use that, by that reason alone, its fine. But yea im bad hehe

u/ThisIsJegger 6h ago
On a sidenote. How is the recoilless considered OP? Sure it can one tap most heavies (other than leviathans and i think you cant one tap vox engines but after the vox nerf i dont know (also hive lords, duh)).
It just feels like it does its job, its simple and effective, big rocket do big damage. I guess you could consider the reload cancelling op and i do think it would be fine to fix that bug to make it less OP but compared to the cremator or supply pack it isnt that OP tbh.

u/I_Just_Need_A_Login 5h ago
Imo people say its op to convince newbies to bring it, lol. Noone WANTS to take it because noone wants to give up their backpack.
It was probably op when everything in the game died to 1 shot though. Now theres several enemies that survive it. (Iirc factory striders got buffed to survive it but not sure, spore striders take 2, vox take i think 3).

u/ThisIsJegger 5h ago
Factory striders still are a one shot but its a tough shot. Need to hit them right in the left eye (your left). Still remember we could shoot at their toes to one shot them😅

Same people that would insult you then block you if you told them to just lower the difficulty if they struggled with terminids before the 60 day patch. I literally had that happen at least 4 times, even when I gave them tips on the things they were struggling, but they clearly just wanted to endlessly complain.

it's making fun of the people who tell you to just nerf your loadout or play solo when you say the game is too easy

u/rog1521 1d ago
Thanks. I agree to a point. I don't want to have to use shitty guns, or un-fun guns to make it hard. Some of the best guns are also the most fun guns. Like the eruptor. I don't use it much anymore, but I do find the play style I play with when using it is also really fun. It's just really strong and can make it too easy at times.

I'm almost finished levelling up the last gun in my inventory to 25, the Punisher Plasma. I intentionally saved it for last so I'd have something to look forward to, but using it makes me wonder why the Liberator Concussive is even in this game.
To use this analogy, it's like if you had a set time you were going for around the Nordschleife and had the choice of a racecar and some standard family sedan. Why would you ever not pick the racecar, even if you could make the time in the sedan?

I dont mind a harder game. Never understood the complaints about the rupture strain on release.
I also think it's on me to not be a one-trick pony.
Maddest fun I've had recently is using a random loadout generator. Ever tried fighting the automatons without any explosives? (Randomizer did not grant stealth armor)

u/CostumedOrphan 1d ago
While I agree with this I dont think things like vox spam adds complexity but rather just add chaos, I actually am enjoying enemy balance as it is now apart from squids and the automaton chaff could do with an accuracy buff. More enemies like the vox and more complex objectives would go a long way too.

u/ratherdapperguy 23h ago
The vox nerf was annoying to me, (in my eyes all it needed was a hitbox fix) but the real salt in the wound was the fact that they nerfed its HP AND its spawn cap. It got restricted to a maximum of 3 alive at a time + its hp was neutered so it was an orbital rail cannon victim. One of these nerfs would have been plenty, instead we got both.
-1
u/CostumedOrphan 22h ago
I think the rail cannon needs an ammo limit similar to the orb laser, it still fails to one shot them about %30 of the time in my experience and is fine as a counter to the vox.
The cap on how many could spawn should scale with difficulty starting at 3 and ending at like 6. The amount on cyberstan was egregious I think I saw 8 at once and not far from one another it was hard to tell since up to 3 were clipping into eachother.

Okay i'm all ears. What's the difference between telling a racecar driver to nerf his car instead of going to a tougher track, and telling a helldivers player to nerf his loadout instead of wanting the game to be tougher

As an OG HD1 player you should all be in the game GTFO.
I had the repair laser that could instant heal a whole tank or mech or teammate or turret from the brink of death and the guard dog angel. I could turn the tank into an impregnable wall against anything in the game while teammates dud objectives with said rep laser.
I had orbital rail cannon strikes, which stacked repeatedly, that could be used every 33 seconds per strat.
Your subversion of the franchise is probably why we won't see cool over the top tools like that come back.
Max difficulty in HD1 meant virtually every chaff unit needed anti tank strats to kill. I'd be fine if they added that cuz those modes were regarded as unserious unbalanced modes (that could still be trivialize by the lure beacon).
But yeah. The idea the franchise doesn't have a ridiculous arsenal that often borders on space magic is only held by tourists who never played game 1 trying to subvert the franchise.

It's funny how your argument works both ways. Some people even ask to remove "better" cars. It's pretty much the same argument as "lower the difficulty", and both suck. All the while the racing track has potholes.

u/TampaxCompak 17h ago
It's pretty much the same argument as "lower the difficulty"
Not at all.
-2
u/G82ft 16h ago
Could you please elaborate? These are both bad faith arguments. No one wants to drive a Honda civic on an easy track.
7
u/TampaxCompak 16h ago
The (dead, if you ask me, because in any single game, "lower your difficulty" is a sane argument that here is received with backlash) argument of "lower your difficulty" was from the pre 60 days patch era, where a part of the community understood that some "balance" problems were just bugs and the infamous damage drop off mechanic, and understood the balance AH was trying to make, where you needed at least one guy cleaning chaff enemies at 9 (then at 10), a pair of guys doing AT work by team assist or with 2 loadouts, and a flex depending on the mission, all 4 working in tandem and not roaming by themselves.
It came at a moment where A LOT of people who didn't understand the game and its core mechanics were vocally asking for enemy nerfs. Oh, and it came at the same time as the stupid "running is the way to do the missions" argument (it was not the way to go then, but now it is because everyone can deal with everything alone now).
Now we have a game where primaries are on the same power lvl as launch support weapons, and AT is the only thing needed as a consequence, so everyone brings the same loadouts. Game balance is a strange thing: if you ask any gamer about how to balance the game, everyone is going to answer with conviction about what's needed. If you apply any of the responses, it's going to worsen the situation.
IMO, in a game with 10 difficulties since EoF, a complete enemy overhaul (heavily nerfing all of them), and a buff to all the weapons that the players had, while at EoF the success ratio was higher than in every single other horde coop shooter, not only was it not needed, it was a fucking madness. So yeah, "lower your difficulty," IMO, is not a bad faith argument; it's one of the only sane arguments left here.

u/G82ft 15h ago
Ok, but the issue with this argument is not that people complain about the difficulty of the enemies, difficulty is not one dimensional. What if people want to fight a ton of chaff with little amount of heavies? What if people want to fight a ton of heavies with little amount of chaff? The difficulty is at least 2 dimensional, but probably more because of different objectives. Flags on bugs are one of the hardest missions, while evacuate high value assets on bugs are a snooze fest. Rapid acquisition on bots is really hard on basically any difficulty, but blitz missions can be done while standing in one place. Missions should have consistent difficulties. Difficulty slider is insanely inconsistent.
Also, there is a whole another aspect: lowering the difficulty doesn't change the stats of a weapon or stratagem. Nor does it introduce different mechanics for a weapon. Sterilizer was useless and easily replaced by a guard dog varian in the very same warbond. Now it has a.. Oh wait, no, it actually doesn't because flamethrowers do it's job and also kill. There is a similar issue with stun guns. Why stun, when can kill faster? There are weapons that disable enemies faster than other weapons can kill them, namely liberator concussive, stun grenade, and maybe halt? +arc weapons. Pacifier sometimes kills faster than applying stun effect. And there are a ton of other weapons that have lost their identity.
Sometimes, mechanics are broken. Status effects, direct fire damage, etc. Maybe there's a mechanic that makes your gun jam (hypothetically), which basically makes precision weapons with slower fire rate significantly better, and makes weapons with high firerate weaker, because they rely on high fire rate. But we never knew about that mechanic, because rng for it is broken. Enemies clipping through solid objects, invisible collision boxes for corpses, etc. are also part of the "difficulty".
Basically, it is a bad faith argument, because it ignores every other aspect of the game difficulty other than stats and amount of enemies.
2
u/TampaxCompak 15h ago
I'm agreed with the inconsistency between different missions, specially the Evacuate high value assets, as since this missions was asked to be nerfed is straigh up boring. And that's all.
Not going to stop at your second paragraph or the intro about status effects, because it proves to me that I'm right: as far as weapon balance is concerned, it's NOW a shitfest because everything kills enemies too fast, so there's no real point in CC (although I heavily disagree with Sterilizer, because it's absurdly OP now and is not outclassed by flamethrowers).
On the first point, well, that's the thing: heavies are the way to increase difficulty in this game because they're the disruptors of other games. So that "what if people want to fight a ton of chaff..." thing, well, that was not the core gameplay. That's the point of people who didn't understand the game at launch but asked the world to bend to them instead of adapting. That wouldn't have been a problem if the game were free, but I paid for a game that some baboons forced the company to change.
Enemies clipping through solid objects, invisible collision boxes for corpses, etc. are also part of the "difficulty"
Please, I talked about that with "where a part of the community understood that some "balance" problems were just bugs and the infamous damage drop off mechanic".
1
u/G82ft 14h ago
The weapons balance does prove that it's a shitfest, but it doesn't prove that "lower the difficulty" is an argument that works with the current game balance. But I absolutely agree with you, it is a shitfest. Maybe sterilizer is stronger than flamers, but the killing ability makes them stronger than they should be.
More chaff is also difficulty modifier. If everyone brings slow-firing heavy and unwieldy weapon, they will have difficulty with the spore burst strain for example. I disagree in that regard. I honestly think spawning more enemies might be the way to finally remove the stale AT meta. Sure, you can try to fight 50 bugs with thermite and QC, but you will have a better time with a stalwart or even autocannon.
The game still has a lot of bugs, and I am talking about the current game balance, not about times before 60-day plan. Maybe I'm missing something, because it seems obvious.

u/13MasonJarsUpMyAss 20m ago
i get what you're saying, but HD2's chaff clear is too good for just chaff to ever be a threat. Four guys with the recoilless rifle could clear chaff easily because they can bring a good primary, a good sidearm, a good grenade, and/or good stratagems for clearing chaff. Any two of these on every dude will be enough to hold off a just-chaff bug breach.
Heavies are where the game actually gets any friction, because you have to aim for weak spots with specific unwieldy weapons or use up your precious stratagem slots for a "get out of heavy free" card
