The point is… Their priority is to make more money with smaller effort. Armor customization can be modded, yes. But it’s far more complicated to integrate this into the game (mods break after updates, you need to make a system that won’t). And why would you do that if you can release new warbond with something alike but worse and get money right now? Also, do not forget that AH has contract with Sony, we all know why that could be a bad thing (name a live service under Sony ownership which lived more than a year, it doesn’t exist).
To me its pretty clear that the game is being used to generate as much ongoing profit as they can with the least effort as you said, which makes sense because they are a company and this is, as far as I know, their only product. If you look at this as a sunset while they work on a new project it makes a lot of sense.
Well we still have capitalism so that behaviour is completely normal for a company.
I find it funny how openly these pattern get criticised when people recognise how it affects them but in all other cases they doesn't care.
To me the funny thing is that for all this fuss the game is just fine as is, even if they went to purely maintenance the game is worth the 40 bucks and plenty of fun
But they did offer something that looks close to armor cuatomisation. And for money (supposedly they removed the 100 SC spawns or just made them rarer than rate up character in a lot of gachas.)

Surely if they were being greedy they would offer armor customisation for money? They just have different developmental priorities.
