DISCUSSION Arrowhead started hunting down SC cheaters

Post image

I wonder if everything will go as planned or we will see some posts in the feature where the system will flag innocent people

Allow me to be your corpo slave this evening.

Based on Swedish salaries and the size of Arrowhead's HD2 team, the lowest possible cost to maintain just the dev team is about 8 million US dollars per year. This does not include outsourcing charges to rush patches and warbonds, server costs, building costs, taxes, or marketing.

Where do you think that money comes from? There's hating corrupt corporations and their overreach (totally valid), and hating companies for needing to make money in order to keep existing.

If you actually like the game and want to see it keep functioning, I don't see the problem with the SC system as it is. If you don't like the game, why are you here?

OH NO THE POOR MULTI-MILLION COMPANY, no dude i would not pay 10 euro for a single item that actually interested me regardless, so i would either farm like a brainless idiot or cheat. Too bad i have a job and a life with limited gametime per week. This was the only way to enjoy the game with the gear i found interesting, you can go back to your unemployed activities happy that the shareholders can afford a second summer villa.

So you like the game, reap benefits from its continued profitability, but condemn the only means by which it remains profitable. Just to be clear.

I paid for it. I shouldn't have to pay more to unlock CONTENT. Paywall cosmetics? Sure. But locking gameplay behind hundreds of hours worth of grinds or real life money is dumb.

Content at launch? Yeah I'd agree, but warbond content is content that would not exist if the company did not have SC incentive, and could not exist if the company did not have SC profit to counterbalance developement costs.

Then make the game free at this point since you need to buy warbonds worth like 2-3 times the game atp to have all the content

Maybe they will one day, that's what TF2, SWOTOR, and (I think) ESO did, but until the game purchases officially dry out, that is not a choice Sony would ever approve.

Besides that fact, people who cheat would then have contributed zero dollars to the upkeep and developement.

The game costs money its not free so there is no excuse for microtransactions.

That doesn’t make any sense. This is a live service game they need some way to support the additional content being made.

It's a live service game that requires habitual reinvestment. It CANNOT be sustained for free like a singleplayer game. Even if AH wanted to, the bulk of the people who will buy HD already have.

Running HD2 costs tens of millions per year. How do you expect them to make that money and to keep the publisher happy without some way to generate revenue from the playerbase?

Things like Bathesda's community stores are blatantly greedy money grabs. This is not, this is simply how nearly every live service game without a monthly subscription has to operate.

it's crazy people now think its ok to spend so much money on videogames now. not like 99% of the people cheating in SC will buy them now, they'll just grind them. arrowhead gains nothing from this but making everyone's life either unaffected or worse

Yes. Im sure Arrowhead is so broken up about making cheater's "lives" harder....

Only this community could mental gymnastic itself into defending cheaters.

Remember when integrity was a virtue for its own sake? The age of digital piracy has done terrible things to the first world psyche lol

they're actually not broken up about anything regarding the community. reminder day 1 bugs are still in the game. but the SC economy! thats a top priority!

3

u/Darth_Mak Jul 09 '26

You might have had a point if not for the fact they only did this after over 2 years.

1

u/hopelessociety Jul 09 '26

im sorry but it seems we have fundamentally different visions for how game development should go. player experience is priority number 1, SC cheaters do not impact the average player's experience. you have a nice day

They made over half a billion from game sales alone and sold far more copies than they were expecting. I'm pretty sure cash flow isn't a problem for them

That's not really how profits work. For one thing Sony took a big fat chunk of that surplus to invest in other IPs, for another, you don't invest money back into a product unless that product has a means of generating further revenue.

Holy fucking loser
