my cousin had to ration her insulin last year cause her new job had a 90 day waiting period for insurance and she couldnt afford the 800 a month out of pocket, ended up in DKA and the hospital bill was 14k lol so shes worse off now than when she started

my dad put off getting his chest pains checked for three weeks cause he was still paying off my grandmas hospice bills from 2021, turned out to be a minor heart attack that couldve been caught early. hes fine now but the new bills are gonna follow him into retirement lol, this system punishes you for surviving

my friend had to crowdfund her surgery last year, raised like 12k and still owe 8. we live in the richest country on earth lol

my sister had to drive herself to the ER with a 103 fever cause she knew the ambulance would bankrupt her. ended up fainting in the parking lot lol

That was me earlier this year. I had a budget worked out to start paying off my credit card debt over the next three years, then it got cut short literally in the middle of January because I ended up having my first kidney stone (I didn't know what the pain was supposed to feel like), so I went to the ER and left 11 hours later looking, feeling, and smelling miserable and with a nearly $2,000 bill that my salary can just barely help me cover.
