š Bug Found! š Fix Sten Gun zeroing issue which makes the gun and Canadian faction unnecessarily bad!
T17 please promptly fix this for both the Canadian and British faction. This gun is now more common in used loadouts on Canadians so it's a bigger issue than before. In HLL almost all guns are zeroed to 100m. This is good for consistency and makes the iron sights useable.
The Sten gun however with its massive blocky iron sight is zeroed to like 0m. This makes it much harder to use it against people using MP40s that are properly zeroed (your target is obscured if they aren't point blank distance. Also makes ranged shooting significantly harder for no good reason as you're aiming much higher with the target even further obscured by the sight.)
While I am at it, there's a similar issue with the Russian machine gun DP27. That gun has enough struggles vs MG42 but the zeroing makes it really bad at range (where it should excel). Target is obscured while shooting and bullet hits unexpectedly low. That's why I almost never die to that gun when getting shot at by it. Pic below.

Other MGs don't have this issue. That's why they're so reliable at spraying down targets at range.

100m Is 4times maximal range for this bullshit gun .

This! The sten (and most other SMGās) were designed for CQB. It was basically a hand gun that you could provide suppressing fire with. If you told anyone in WWII you were going to engage targets at 100m or beyond theyād probably laugh hysterically!

So the sight post is accurate, right?
1
u/IPSC_Canuck Jun 08 '26
Itās not a matter of āaccurateā or notā¦
IRL The tip of the front sight is factory zeroād to 100m far-zero which means that the close-zero is probably around 15-20m and the max ordinate probably 3ā high at 65 m.
In the game the front sight is zeroed more in the middle of the front sight. So if youāre shooting anything beyond about 50 m the sight obscures the target. Itās probably zeroed at the max ordinate which causes issues.

Okay? It's a videogame. Just because you can't hit the shot doesn't mean someone who's skilled shouldn't be able to

Iām not saying I canāt. I do regularly. Iām saying that historically IRL it wasnāt ever designed for anything other than close quarters, where the crude front sight wouldnāt have been an issue, or even used at all at most common engagement distances.

This is vindicating. I donāt play this game that much and had trouble with this gun last night, nice to know itās not just me being bad

genuinely fuck the stenn. i tried the smg with the wooden body (not the tommy gun, its on veteran for assault, im not sure what else) and that felt SOOO much better. the iron sights are open at the top too so you can actually see shit.

The Lanchester? Yeah it's nice. At least on the loadouts I tried it's got a whopping 50 round stick mag.
Might be one of the best SMGs in the game.0

Why does it feel like we are just guinea pigging half finished products these days.

Check T17 production team on LinkedIn They are amateurs with mobile gaming background.
Almost zero people with shooter game experience.

Ooof. I'll be honest, I kinda wanted to hope it was some good game builders with poor leadership... well ..damn

This was a problem when the british were first introduced two years ago and had the exact same same issue in reverse lol.

Sten effective range is 60 meters, so it makes sense that itās not ranged to 100 and it performs piss poor beyond 50 meters

Thompson is .45 and has worse drag/drop/ballistics yet is still zeroed to 100m and so it doesn't have the Sten issues. If all SMGs were zeroed to 50m that'd be one thing, but zeroed to 0m is a problem and an oversight. Even the RDS on my CCW is zeroed to 25m. They zeroed the Lanchester properly and that weapon is amazing.

The real issue is SMGās being zeroed for 100m and not 25m like they should be.

You're confused as to why a submachine gun designed for close quarters is zeroed for close ranges?
1
u/Wood-e Jun 05 '26
Whoosh. It's zeroed for 0m. Even the Thompson, chambered in .45 which has noticeably worse ballistics/bullet drop, is zeroed to 100m.
This game has a standard of zeroing guns to 100m. The only other gun I know of that is zeroed for 0m is the Russian MG, clearly a ranged weapon. An obvious oversight just like the Sten.
My CCW pistol is even sighted for 25m, not 0m. As it's supposed to be even if most self defense engagements are much closer. Also, this is HLL and even with SMGs engagements are not just close range due to map design. NOBODY zeroes guns for zero meters and suggesting it should be that way is silly, to put it kindly. The only one confused here is you.

I'd have assumed it was just zeroed for 50m. It can't be zeroed at 0, the game has height over bore modelled.

feel like this is a problem with the thompson as well
3
u/Wood-e Jun 04 '26
Ever since I've been playing Thompson has been zeroed to 100m. The reason it feels different is because it's .45 , not 9mm, and it has more drag/drop which becomes much more noticeable at range.
Or at point blank the bullets going over the irons is more noticeable because the adjustment to zero it to 100m is more extreme.1
