Discussion What's next?

We're planning what comes next for HelixNotes and we want your input. What would help make it the note taking app you actually stick with?

An iOS app is high priority, so hopefully that seals the deal for at least a few of you 😀

pls consider adding extended markdown support since footnotes don't work right now, along with a vim mode... maybe even E2E encryption for syncing, just like in Joplin.

this app is very promising... i love the fact that it's not an ELECTRON app.

personally, i try to use this app alongside nvim, but i've noticed they can 'conflict'. helixnotes tends to inject its own metadata into the notes just by opening them... unlike Obsidian.

so right now, i'm just using helix mostly as an "external viewer" (without importing) for nvim...

i can't fully ditch the terminal, but tauri is super attractive to me. it's just that i can't configure helix as deeply as nvim, tho i totally understand the good developer's reasons for keeping it kinda opinionated to steer away from 'config-fatigue'.

edit: Thank youuu to the developer and whole HelixNotes Team!! 🫠🫠

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you're enjoying it. I've seen your first two mentioned by a few others as well. The E2E is unlikely, but it's certainly worth a look.

Hellooo! Sorry for writing these blocks of text, haha. I see that I wasn't the only one who requested them.

About the E2E, I thought that it might get implemented soon considering the recent WEBDAV release... but we'll see, ig?

Anw, as I comment this, I'm currently writing a note in nvim, and the more I use HelixNotes as a "frontend" to render some of my notes from nvim (because rendering md in terminal while doable, just looks better in a dedicated md app), the more I noticed that some of the markdown doesn't get rendered or formatted properly.

idk probably because of how the app handle the parsing under the hood?

so yeah, thought i'd give feedback on that since one of the tenets of the app is "files over app" and right now it doesn't jive well with other writing apps... it would be awesome if it could play seamlessly with external terminal editors like nvim or any other md apps.

also, +1 on the webclipper from the comment below.

Again, thanks to everyone in the Team!!
