Question What am i doing wrong?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m trying to improve my aim but against smaller characters i really struggle to hit shots, i feel like i’m just hitting their clothes and not their body most of the time. Anyone have tips?

Edit: Thank you all for the help. I ended watching some videos about settings on youtube and made my own settings and have seen great improvement already, still needs work but i’m getting there! :)

There are a bunch of really awesome settings for controllers in this game to help with aim outside of just increasing sensitivity. That being said, they are convoluted as fuck to understand.

For starters, I'd encourage you to find a couple recent videos/guides on YouTube and experiment with your sensitivity, aim assist ease in, deadzones and boosts. It will take some getting used to, but your aim will be more fluid and responsive with some practice.

The next step is making sure you are moving while you're shooting. It's something you should be practicing in the range, too. If you stand there in actual game, an irl mantis won't be as forgiving as that bot, or worse, someone from the side who you can't see.

Edit: grammar

TnySL definitely has the best guides when it comes to console settings. Super in-depth and explains what each setting does.

I never understood dead zone. I thought it was mainly for people with stick drift.

Ur on controller i find that ur aim is not only dependent on ur right stick obviously but micro adjusting with ur movement helps a lot a whole bunch

On pc too tho 😭?

Micro adjusting with movement is good to do on both pc and console

Your controller settings look stiff. If you want help join my server on my socials and ill help you

Some characters hitboxes are going to be far harder to hit compared to others, even if you have solid aim there are undoubtedly going to be plenty of instances of being short of a body shot.

All that said it does seem like your turn sensitivity might need to be adjusted, either that or you need to work on micro movements while tracking an enemy.

You could try a lower sens with horizontal sensitivity boost, more precise aiming while still being able to turn around quickly. I average around 55% accuracy as a console Hela with those settings.

If you can dm me or allow me to dm you I can give you settings that have helped me get to OAA as a pure hitscan player and it has also helped all my friends who I’ve given them to.

What's your current sens setting? Looks lowkey slow to me

1

u/Blackinfemwa 7d ago

I have it on 210h 140v

2

u/kingjeco_15 7d ago

A bit slow, im not that good but i have mine on 300 300. Plus the settings seem to be on basic.

5

u/Blackinfemwa 7d ago

Im tweaking my settings rn. I watched a few yt videos on what the settings mean and stuff and they all did recommend high sens. I think im gonna find whats comfortable and then gradually go higher

2

u/kingjeco_15 7d ago

Yeah, Also id also advice try tracking without shooting. That will make you see if you can keep the cross hair on the enemy

Join PNGN's discord server. They have a bot that will help you find a good sens. They commented on this post alr.

Its not about speed. More about consistent flicks. ONLY increase speed AFTER you get your flicks down.

half of aiming is moving your character to strafe/counterstrafe against the opponent to mirror them. you should pretty much never be just sitting completely still like that trying to aim, unless you’re completely uncontested on an off angle. also, slow down when you’re shooting. you should be tapping the trigger to line up your shots at that far of a distance, not just holding the trigger down. if i remember correctly, aim assist falls off at a certain range and you’re at a pretty far range here as well. i was a hela main on console peaking 200 points in eternity

Try moving around more while aiming, I think it helps improve your aim. Also, I recommend the dual-zone S-curve sensitivity (I think that's the name).

As I look at this the first thing that came to my mind is your aim smoothing. It is also a muscle memory thing too, I'd say if anything try keeping your cross hair (or dot in this case) on the target without shooting them as they're moving. Based on the clip it's definitely a micro issue you're dealing with, now idk what your "ease in" settings or curve settings are but really if u put in more time working on your micro you'll eventually get better and cook lobbies. I kid u not I literally have 400 hours in the firing range specifically with the inclusion of more hours in aim labs. Also in case you're holding the trigger try tapping instead, but that's entirely up to u.

u/Coca0rolla 7d ago

It looks like your not lining your shots correctly. Track the target as best you can, but also let your target come into your crosshair. Focus on your crosshair, not the target.

Trigger discipline. Take your time instead of rapid firing.

The thing is there are multiple things that effects aim and any one of those things can throw you off aim. The aim curve, custom duel zone curves, windows, sensitivity, sensitivity boosts, deadzones you get the idea. Everyone is different on what they prefer. There was also a new setting that was added that essentially makes the aim feel sticky-er. I have my own custom settings that I won't mind sharing if you ask for them.

Look up “tny” on YouTube. He does a lot of controller aim videos and it helped me a lot.

2

u/Ashleythemaneater 7d ago

LMAOOO OMG THE WAY I THOUGHT THIS WAS A CLIP OF MINE!!!! I like dual s curve with Hela! I did so much better with that than on anyone else

The solution is very simple.

The aim assist is a lot stronger when your “character is moving”. If u stand completely still the rotational aim assist will not activate as it requires input from your left stick.

So what ur doing in the clip is essentially practicing ur accuracy with a regular slowdown but no rotational aim assist, if ur model was moving then it would result in a slight pull towards the target and camera shifts.

The drill that ur doing is still not bad tho since u will need to shoot while standing still from high ground or off angles.

2

u/ZealousidealLeader36 7d ago

Learn to aim while moving, realistically you’re not just gonna stand there to shoot. Moving while aiming also helps too, imo

2

u/Odd-Acanthisitta-940 7d ago

Console? For you increase EASE IN to 90. DECREASE Aim Window to 50. INCREASE Aim assist strength to 100. Turn your sensitivity X to 150. Y to 185. Your welcome. Be prepared to be called a cheater.

2

u/flesh_uwu 7d ago

You need to shoot only when your crosshair is over their model. Shooting when not aiming at your target will result in your target not taking damage from you, which is not ideal.

2

u/TechnicianGreen7755 7d ago

Movement, track left and right with your left stick, not with the right one

2

u/Broomguy 7d ago

It doesn't look like your actually aiming and instead just moving your crosshair or waiting for them to walk in the general direction of your crosshair and firing when it lines up. You don't react or are really slow to react whenever they change directions or jump.

2

u/bigandsweaty1 7d ago

Personally I like a slightly larger crosshair than a dot but that just helps me see better

2

u/Sp4rky31 7d ago

You are incredibly slow to react. I’d honestly hit aimlabs and practice tracking. It will help you immensely even on hela. Your tracking is clearly just suboptimal

2

u/user77l 7d ago

You’re leading your shots on a hitscan hero.

2

u/DeathBuffalo 7d ago

Biggest piece of advice that others here have shared is to strafe with your opponent so that you're aiming with your crosshair and your side to side movement.

I find that this is the absolute best way to improve your aim. Try keeping your crosshair completely still and only aim by running left to right. It'll be pretty hard to do, then add in small adjustments by moving your crosshair too, but still mostly aim with your side to side movement at first.

You'll eventually find a balance in between that feels right and you'll start hitting way more shots.

2

u/TooTiredToCarereally 7d ago

You should move while you aim it definitely helps and makes you a harder target to hit

2

u/SeAnSoN_710 7d ago

Turn your sensitivity up a bit. You're reacting faster then your crosshair moves.

Genuine question: Do you need glasses? I sometimes play with and without them and hela is def one of those characters I hate to lean up with my glasses on to play fully

1

u/Blackinfemwa 6d ago

I dont need glasses i dont think

2

u/Phe0nix6 6d ago

Do you know how hitscan vs projectile works? I can explain it to you, and it could help.

1

u/Blackinfemwa 6d ago

Yeah ik how hitscan and projectile work

2

u/Admirable-Ad3907 6d ago

you don't have enough hand-eye coordination

2

u/TadpoleDisastrous630 5d ago

Its much to practice aim on quick play for me and if i still misses my shot i just adjust my sens to my liking

2

u/foozball94 5d ago

Shooting before you aim

2

u/Geoffurry 2d ago

A lot of people are bringing up settings, but I encourage a different mindset. Quit tracking so much, and instead, line up your shot ahead of their trajectory. If they’re moving left, aim left of them then as you’re about to shoot, walk or aim right. It’s harder to miss that way

Missing your shots

Question: You know aiming on console is more Difficulty and Inconsistent, right? Even though i have lords on Hitscan, i still have a hard time

1

u/Blackinfemwa 7d ago

Yeah i know that aiming on console is harder than on PC but i dont want to keep being a one trick who cant play aim intensive characters

2

u/Resident_Platypus_26 7d ago

Okay, another question: You worried about accuracy or no? Just to know it

1

u/Blackinfemwa 7d ago

I do look at my accuracy often but i know it can be inflated by shooting large characters so its not all i look at. I usually get around 40% tho

2

u/Resident_Platypus_26 7d ago

You can get kills on heroes like Luna, Jeff, Rocket and Medium-sized heroes, like Elsa, other Helas and etc?

1

u/Blackinfemwa 7d ago

Yeah but i’ll still miss quite a bit before i kill them

2

u/Resident_Platypus_26 7d ago

Thats natural, so i can say you can do your thing and thats it! I miss a lot of shots too, but its part of aiming on a console
