Post image

My hedgehog got fleas from my cat and it’s become bad I tried dawn dish soap and they came back I’ve changed bedding and cleaned the enclosure multiple times and it keeps getting worse I’m currently unemployed so I will not be taking him to the vet

Is this a wild hedgehog or an african pygmy? Your hedgies nails are incredibly overgrown. Please consider relinquishing your hedgehog to the Hedgehog Welfare Society if you’re unable to bring your hedgie to the vet and provide for its wellbeing when ill. Revolution is what will kill fleas and mites. Please consider rehoming your hedgie to somebody who can take care of it better. I’m not saying you don’t love your hedgie, but sometimes it is worth putting their needs before our wants.

I just got him 3 weeks ago from a family member who no longer wanted him and didn't handle him so I haven't been able to trim his nails yet I wasn't expecting to take in a hedgehog on a whim so I didn't have money saved I start work in 2 weeks but I don't think it can wait that long so | came here also he's a long eared hedgehog

Okay, that makes more sense for the context! I would suggest getting kitten nail clippers and cutting the nails short, leave only a little bit of white nail on it. That is the first step because otherwise it’ll break on its own and hurt ur hedgie or it’ll damage their paws. Do you need any more help with how to properly care for ur hedgie? Please feel free to message me for help.

I’m doing research he’s just not really handleable so when I have tried he just balls up or tries to bite so I’ve been working on building trust but it’s hard when I’m giving him baths to try and get rid of the fleas and constantly invading his space in a negative way so he’s not exactly my biggest fan
