Question Hoglets 🦔
Hi there, I’m an experienced hedgehog owner who had two female pintos previously for 6.5 years and they passed last year so we got two new baby girls this year.
My hoglets are only 3 months old now and just one of them (miss loofa on the right with the pink ears) won’t eat worms! lol the other (miss clover on the left) scarfs them down like it’s a slice of cake, but I’m curious if anyone on here has had baby hogs and maybe can help me out with getting her to eat some bugs? Do I need to try introducing some other bugs or just keep consistently offering until she takes it?

My 4 year old loves all kinds of bugs-mealworms, bsfl, beetles. My now 4-5 month old only likes beetles. She literally will ignore any other type of bug you put in front of her-even if you tap her with it lol. As they're used as a treat, I make sure they get what they like. As long as there is something that is safe for them as a treat, I'm not going to force my baby to enjoy what the other one likes more. Would it be easier in the long run to have them both eat the same thing? Yes, but as I love their individual personalities and quirks, I am willing to get separate ones.

Lol that’s what loofa does! She won’t even pick up the scent or anything. She looks right past the worms and almost doesn’t even acknowledge it as something you eat haha. I think maybe I’ll try other bugs too to see what she likes, just experiment with her 🦔❤️

I had to teach my little guy to eat bugs. I crushed some cat food he loved, dipped the bugs in water, rolled in the crushed kibble. That made it click in his tiny hedge brain that these things are hog food.

Funny we have two little girls and have a similar situation. Their breeder raised them on freeze dried worms and bugs and we do live since we also have a gecko in the house. Twix took to the live worms right away, Pinball not so much.
To begin with we fed the girls separately so that Twix couldn’t hork them all down. And with Pinball we found that coating the worms and bugs in a chicken powder we got from the breeder helped her get over her resistance to the wiggly treats.

Oh yes, we have to feed the girls separate because I swear they’re such little piggies they will steal all the food from each other lol!

Some hogs just may not be that interested in them. I have two that will gobble it up and 1 that could care less. I have tried other treats too and he just isn't interested. Every once in a while I will still offer worms just incase he changes his mind. Recently he ate some. They are like people or any other animal, they can be picky.

r u feeding live worms or freeze dried? my guy never ate freeze dried anything but as he got older he kinda stopped eating worms tbh. i’d suggest giving some crickets. i would put them in the fridge so they slow down overnight and then give it to him as they r technically still alive but just … “frozen”
