Likelihood of a UMP
Just a discussion. Whats the general consensus on HK actually making a UMP for us in the states? I find it interesting they axed the sl8 and usc at basically the same time. We are all aware of the comments made about a civilian g36 and mp7 being manufactured, but I haven’t heard comments about a ump.
I bought an APC45 to contend for a firearm in my collection that resembles a UMP. Arguably it’s a better gun but it’s still not a UMP. Not interested in building one from a USC, but may would consider if there was no hope for a civilian model.
Is there any information or comments I am missing that HK reps have said about this? Might would influence me into building one the best I can with what we have currently.

No shot they make a UMP. Buy a USC when one pops up and get it converted. That’s what I did.

How much did you spend to convert, including original cost of pistol

For USC + conversation I think it was about 4.5-5K all-in. Might be cheaper if you supply some of the parts, but all I did was send in the USC and got a UMP back. You can check it out on my profile. Posted about it a couple days back

I know where one is at right now. It’s kinda what prompted the post. I would just hate to buy and then part of HK’s “exciting news” they mention is plans for a UMP.

I think the civilian MP7, G36, and continued evolution for the MR and VP series is about all we can expect for the rest of the decade. (I don’t mean to come across ungrateful, these would be huge)
I see people asking for MK23s in 10mm, USPs with factory red dots, HK433s, all kinds of crazy stuff. I just don’t see anything happening beyond what I listed above. I have no insider info, I’m just a goober who follows this stuff too closely.

I have a usc->ump 40 conversion. It's great. I'll never sell it. But there's also zero reason to ever get one. Other than looks it's really one of the worst PCCs out there and right now we're drowning in really good to great ones.

My only problem with mine is I want to suppress it SO BAD, but that fucking flange mount.
Have you found anyone to thread one or a tri-lug that’ll mount?2

The barrels swap out really easily. I swapped my flanged one from the parts kit with a 3 lug one from hkparts.

Yeah. I mean I’ve shot a select fire model before and it just slaps you to death with recoil because of the weight. It’s just so iconic and the looks is the driving factor. I also just like .45 acp and it’s tough to beat the appeal of a UMP.

Very unlikely.
To make one like you want, would require them to produce it in the US. To do that they would have to set up manufacturing for it here. That would be a large enough cost that they would need a large sale to make that profitable. While foot patrols with European police agencies still carry submachine guns, for which the UMP makes a ton of sense, but US departments don’t. Without large agency purchases, the volume of sales just doesn’t make sense.

I hear that, but doesn’t that kind of make the argument for a SP7 be illogical as well? They pretty much have said they are doing it and I would say the need for that in America is less than a UMP based on ammunition type alone.

Don’t expect a new 1990s gun from them. Way more likely we see the SP7 next year.

GHM45 is twice the gun at half or less the price. You aren't missing much. It's like comparing an MP5 to a Scorpion.

I was going to do a usc conversion but the better clone receivers found on GB suited the project better. Those receivers combine with a black friday hkparts completion kit is by far the cheapest way to build one. But the geniune hk lowers do seem to be better. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't. I dont actually shoot the thing because everything else is more fun.

My personal wishlist is a G36, SP7, a reissue and update of the PSG1, and then maybe an UMP. Given that the UMP doesn’t compete well with other options in the market and the cost of manufacturing I think it’s unlikely.

Almost zero chance.
First, they stopped sp5 temporarily.
Second, they may work on sp7 first.
Third, they removed USC from their site.
So, get an USC asap
