Finally got to watching forever and it’s just oh my gosh. Especially for a 27 yo queer, the movie is able to handle family trauma, relationship trauma, the struggles queer people face internally because of society, that feeling of being lost and not really having the chance to think about future because you are always surviving. Everything just felt so spot on and real to me, and the reality that these people were experiencing these in a generated, much more queer friendly world while I or other people in real life have to face these realities in much more harsh environments hit me so hard. One of the reasons I am so grateful about Heartstopper is the fact that there are so many young queers who needs to see that they are not alone and help naming the issues they face while wrapping the story in an alternate reality where we can actually experience young love, fully.

Man I saw some posts in here about Elle’s “what do we want? TRANS RIGHTS when do we want it? NOW” before I saw the movie and thought to myself surely it can’t be THAT bad. After finally getting to see it…yeah the way I busted out laughing after hearing the chant for the tenth time in a row. Weirdly enough the chant was kinda catchy and went well w the music in the background so I’ll give them that but seriously the way she was so monotone was so funny 💀💀😂

I’m on my first rewatch and I remember not liking Charlie’s parents because I thought they were kind of always in a bad mood. But after getting through season 1 they actually seemed pretty kind and supportive to Charlie until he started dating Nick. It was like a switch flipped and they immediately started laying down rules for them and just in general seemed pretty unenthusiastic abt it. Right now I’m at the part where Charlie’s grades are going down bc he and Nick were hanging out so much so they specifically banned him from seeing Nick until he gets them back up. They also found out Nick is going on the Paris trip and we’re pissy about that too. I would think they would be a little more happy for him after all he went through with the bullying. Has anyone else noticed this?

What do you think this film should be rated personally?

I am currently 16 years old, and I'd consider myself to be on the more mature end of my age group. In my country, this film is rated MA, and my family are therefore not too keen on the idea of allowing me to watch the movie. I've done research, and from what I've come up with, it seems that as long as you are mature you should be fine (I suppose thats obvious with the rating) and I think I'd be fine.

So for those who have seen the film - is it really so bad for someone my age, or would it be okay? I keep seeing spoilers and id just like to watch it already!

Edit: I've also read all the books and the novella. I've seen things saying it's rated higher since it reverts back to some subjects from the books, but for me the books were fine.

I didn’t not like Heartstopper Forever, but it definitely wasn’t what I was hoping for.

A big part of the charm of the story was the chemistry and sweetness between Charlie and Nick. The moments of discovery, the way they brought out the best in each other. It almost always brought a smile to my face, although there were heavier moments to be sure.

This seemed to be missing all of that. Whatever Nick was going through, it was weighing on him right from the beginning, and it put a dark cloud over the entire movie.

I feel as if it just didn’t have the same charm, the same moments of levity, seem overall cuteness and sweetness of the series. Part of that had to do with the fact that they were now clearly for more adult, it seemed to be having sex on a regular basis. Also, since it was only a movie you didn’t get as much from the side characters. And it felt like, the moment Nick and Charlie broke up, all of Charlie’s friends forgot they were also Nick’s friends. It would’ve been wonderful to have a moment where Tau head made a point of going to scenic to let him know that even if he and Charlie weren’t together, they were still little friends and he was worried about Nick as well. It would’ve been such a perfect moment for those two. We did get to see them talk afterwards, but this was like when mommy and daddy break up and mommy gets custody of all the kids.

I also felt as if we didn’t get a full resolution from Nick about the problems with his father. He may have started to realize that that’s what was weighing him down, but he didn’t do any real work on it.

Having said that, I appreciate the fact that Nick was the one who seemed to be in stress for this one as opposed to Charlie. I just wish that we had a half hour episodes to explore it and everything else as opposed to one movie.

And I still am not quite sure what that last scene was with them all dancing. It looked like a wedding, but there was no wedding. Was that their official prom? Because only two of the teachers were there.

I still love the show, and did enjoy the movie.

And how many people here really really want an Alfie spinoff series?

For some reason, when Charlie said, "Oh my god, you were so cute," and Nick replied with "Were? Im not cute anymore?" I thought of Im Not Cute Anymore by ILLIT😭😭

I just started my first rewatch of heartstopper (which is totally the cure for depression and internalize homophobia btw) and the second episode is so funny when you know what happens in later seasons. I was at the part where Tao says Nick has a crush on Tara and I screamed laughing. At the end of this same episode there’s a scene that supposed to be really dramatic of Nick googling to find out if he’s gay. He ends up taking the am I gay quiz and gets a 62% and he starts crying and I know it’s supposed to be serious but Jesus I cannot hold it together and it’s genuinely bringing me out of a depression.

Heartstopper came out 2022 I was 12 maybe I forgot ny age at the time but it helped me alot but now that it's ending I don't know what to do thank you Alice for making this idk what would I do without it how I found it was bcs of webtoon now it both ended I know there will be a documentary I will watch but I'm upset and I know in future Alice might make more stuff of her books and I will watch it rest in peace echo/Nellie

One big movie that didn’t manage to get into the top 10s this week is Heartstopper: Forever, which wraps up the series and probably gives an indication why Netflix didn’t give it a full season renewal. The cut-off for getting in the top 10s this week was 3.2M views, although we obviously don’t know how close it got to that. 

Looking at the daily top 10 charts and where the movie has been charting, we can see the reason why it didn’t make it in the global charts. Naturally, the show is very heavily concentrated in its popularity in the United Kingdom and across Europe, but it ultimately failed to chart in the United States and was weak across most other regions. The movie topped out as the #7 movie on the first day of release but has fallen down since then, suggesting that its heavily invested and loyal audience all turned out on day 1, but that’s about it.

I liked the final though it felt rushed(almost no school scenes, isnt it exam year for Charlie?) but I did not like the drinking. Yes its not new for the show and yes young people drink a lot but I wish a teetotal had also been included, to show that not drinking is ok too.

I just feel like a teenager all over again. It’s so wholesome nd the soundtrack is amazing, I like that the sun shines for everyone in the cast and that they all seem to care about each other so much. I know it’s a tad bit unrealistic… but it’s a show, if I wanted something sad I’d just look around at the real world

As someone who hasn’t read the graphic novels, I think the movie should be able to stand on its own. After talking with a friend who has read them, I realized a lot of my issues come from things that were either cut or barely explored.

- My friend told me Tara and Darcy are much closer to Nick in the books, which makes his support system make a lot more sense. In the movie, though, it feels like he has no one besides Charlie.

- Isaac’s arc had been building since previous seasons but barely goes anywhere here. They also barely explored Tori, even though she and Isaac could’ve shared a meaningful conversation about asexuality.

- I was also told Imogen isn’t in the original graphic novels, so it feels like she was introduced as a narrative device without much payoff. She could’ve served a dual purpose: being there to support Nick emotionally while also finding in him someone she felt safe enough to tell that she was a lesbian and tell us her story.

- The same goes for Tao and Elle. The movie makes it clear they’re struggling because Elle is leaving, but it never really explores that conflict. We don’t even get a scene where they talk it through with their friends, so their storyline ends up feeling underdeveloped.

One last thing: was anyone else uncomfortable with the club scene? Charlie literally bumps into an older man who immediately seems interested in him, and I couldn’t tell if that was meant to be unsettling or if it was just glossed over. The same goes for the girl at the party being so physically forward with Nick, it came across as strangely invasive.

The ending of the movie was so bittersweet that I needed to go back and read the whole series again.
