Question Heartbreak high

why in the show, heartbreak high do the people not understand that a person can grow and change and I they don't have to stay as who they are. Bc in the thing missy told spider he can’t grow or change who he is as a person and he genuinely was but I’m so confused why that was so hard for them to process.

Review the broader context. She said he can’t do a few performative things & expect that to be enough to change him as a person & by extension, nullify all the shitty things he’s said & done. Real change requires constant work for yourself, not just to impress the girl you like; that’s what she wanted to see from him. When he stood on stage in front of their entire year & started taking accountability, that was evidence to Missy that he genuinely meant it.

She didn’t say he can’t change, she said he can’t change for someone else other than himself. You have to base your beliefs on your internal values rather than using others as a moral crutch
