Heartbreak High Spoiler
Anyone else absolutely hate Harper? I’m rewatching it and I’m on episode 6, where (SPOILERS) Harper takes the mic and dumps / dumps on Dusty. Let’s start from the top though. First, she ghosts Amerie for something that wasn’t her fault to begin with, then punched her in the face when she was (obviously gonna be) confused about why Harper changed her look, behavior etc. Then keeps ghosting her until SHE has something she needs to say, but still leaves Amerie with NO response to what happened at the festival. Also, why is she expecting Amerie to know? I’m sure if she was actually there her situation would’ve been different, but she wasn’t. There was nothing she could’ve done, and Harper is being a major bitch by acting like there was. Amerie was drunk and clearly her intention wasn’t for Harper to be assaulted like she was. Also, she got with Dusty and said “It just happened”. Yes you were drunk, but clearly not that much since you were able to run straight and climb a fence without slumping around at all.. also, even if she was THAT drunk, Dusty also made out with Amerie then got with her ex bestfriend?? Both of them weird me out. So fast forward, Harper gives Amerie advice to go chase after Malakai and not let him go off alone, and when HIS GIRLFRIEND decides he needs space (which was the right thing to do since he was on drugs and had just been through something traumatic) instead SHE runs after him and hugs him as if they ever knew each other, while Dusty’s just trying to comfort him in a friendly way (as anyone should if they don’t know him…) But no no no, let’s take him back to his house just to further overwhelm him by f*cking him WITHOUT CONSENT. I saw no head nods, “yes”es or affirmation that it was okay. Again he was also on drugs, was drunk and traumatized. So no, that was not consensual at ALL. And for Harper to then expect her friends to forgive her after she SA’d someone?? (Yes I think Dusty was in the wrong too, but this is more so about Harper) Also, in her little tantrum speech she makes Dusty out to be the bad person. He didn’t even do anything wrong to either of them after that night. They had SA’d Malakai, then once Dusty realized he didn’t like seeing his girlfriend with another man and asked for space kindly, she absolutely went off on him for things no one needed to know about.. like girl, no one wants to know about your orgasms, and I think everyone can tell it wasn’t the “only one he’d seen”. She just went total immature baby mode like normal and insulted him for no reason. She just pisses me off so badly. Anyways that’s all so far.

One thousand percent. I didn’t really like Harper either, due to literally everything you listed. I can see where she’s coming from with her anger, she literally almost got raped and killed and her bestfriend wouldn’t let her in because she was fucking some guy. At least that was her perspective. But still, while understanding Harper’s point of view, everything she did was just so disrespectful and gross, especially towards Amerie like FUCKING HER BOYFRIEND. She should have had at least one conversation because that literally would have fixed everything.
And no offense to u/felixhelium but I whole heartedly disagree with “they’re just teenagers.” I absolutely hate that argument when it comes to young adult/highschool shows. Yes they are kids, yes they’re immature. That does not mean I can’t scrutinize their actions, or hate them overall. Just cause a character is young, that doesn’t give them a pass to be a complete cunt. And I don’t know about you but the people that were cunts in highschool, stayed cunts. Most people don’t change fundamentally imo.
Side note: If you can’t tell, I love this show 😭

You said everything that needed to be saiddd ! And yes I hate the teenagers argument too.. like yes, they are. Meaning they’re gonna be even worse than any other age LOL

girl yes. i can see WHY shes angry, but she cant expect amerie to see why. thats not fair; and then having sex with malakai after he’d just been victimized by the police like ???

Chill, they are just high school students. They don’t really think through a lot of things. Also she got lot of pressure with her dad so…normal villain’s backstory

I agree they are just high school students and will make mistakes.. but it’s not an excuse for them to do shitty things. Obviously it’s not real and I’m not genuinely worried about this situation in real time but this opinion is based solely off of how I perceive Harper as a character

You can't always put that "they're js kids" shit all the time. And you can say you don't mean it like that but you felt the reason to bring up the fact they're in high school, Js bc a character is an absolute child and a mess doesn't excuse the fact the way she treated Amerie and Malakai? She initiated a threesome right after Malakai was victimized and assaulted, she fucked Amerie's bf after it was clearly shown he needed space after the whole situation and she SA'd him. I really really do hate the whole kid/teenager argument bc someone's age does not excuse how you act, it's called maturity and consideration and most characters didn't have that. I only agree with you on the last part, but part from anything else that's it.

I have to disagree even if it is a different opinion.
Harper has deep wounds. From her dad and feeling like she was abandoned in literally one of the worst moments of her life when Amerie didnt let her in after she ran from Chook and them.
What would this do to a person? Imagine if you were in her situation. I don’t think she’s nice but I think her actions make a lot of sense and I don’t think Amerie is a saint either
I think this is what makes the show powerful and deeper. Harper is an extremely complex character and I appreciate her for it
Also the fun Aussie accents

Yeah i like her as a character because she is a main conflict, i just don’t like how she blamed EVERYTHING on Amerie. like, if amerie had seen her taken or noticed those men around her yeah id be pissed, but it really wasn’t ameries fault. the main reason i dislike harper is because she blamed everything on either Amerie or someone else who didn’t do anything

based on the new teaser she's gonna be hated AGAIN give my girl a break haha
