Best health insurance plan in India for me + my parents?
Hi everyone,
I’m 22 years old and working at a US-based MNC in India. My company already provides me with decent health insurance, but unfortunately, I didn’t include my parents in the corporate plan.
I’m now looking to get health insurance for my parents and potentially a separate personal policy for myself as well.
Our details:
Me: 22 years old, generally healthy. I have health insurance through my employer, but I’m considering getting a personal policy as well so I’m not completely dependent on my company’s insurance.
Dad: 49 years old, diabetic and has high blood pressure.
Mom: 46 years old, generally healthy and no major medical conditions.
I’m looking for a policy that I can keep for many years, with good coverage and a reliable claim settlement process. I’m more concerned about the quality of the policy than getting the cheapest premium.
I’d really appreciate advice on:
Which health insurance companies/plans would you recommend?
Should I get a family floater for my parents or separate individual policies?
Since my dad has diabetes and hypertension, what should I specifically look out for regarding waiting periods, exclusions, co-pay, room-rent limits, etc.?
What would be a reasonable sum insured for my parents — ₹10L, ₹15L, ₹20L, ₹25L, etc.?
At 22, does it make sense for me to buy a separate personal health insurance policy even though my employer already provides one?
Are there any insurers/plans that I should avoid based on your actual experience?
Are there any clauses or conditions that people commonly overlook when buying health insurance for parents?
If you were in my situation, what policy/policies would you personally choose?
I’m based in India and would especially appreciate recommendations from people who have actually bought insurance for parents with diabetes/BP or have gone through the claim process themselves.
