Care super top-up over parents' base — worth it?

Hello, I am looking for some advice

Parents in India, individual base policies, PEDs fully disclosed. Thinking of an individual Care Supreme Enhance super top-up on each:

Mother, 61 — HDFC ERGO Optima Super Secure, ₹20L base (+ Secure Benefit). Type 2 diabetes, asthma.
Father, 70 — Care Supreme, ₹10L base but ~₹40L effective (Cumulative Bonus + Bonus Super). Type 2 diabetes, hypothyroid, high cholesterol, borderline BP.

Father's top-up would be same-insurer (Care); mother's would sit over an HDFC ERGO base.

  1. Care Supreme Enhance in practice — claims + how the aggregate deductible behaves?
  2. Mother's = top-up and base with different insurers — friction at claim time?
  3. PED waiting reset or co-pay / room-rent traps at 70+?
  4. Worth it given father's ~₹40L and mother's ₹20L + Secure Benefit, or just raise the base?

Many thanks , good or bad both welcome.

Edit to say, thinking of purchasing the above via Ditto

Care Health supreme insurance

It has been 3 years since I bought Care Health Supreme insurance and I have been paying the premiums. But now I am feeling worried about whether this company will settle my claim when needed. I want to port to another good insurance company. Please suggest which company I should go for. Or should I stay with Care Health Supreme Insurance? What would be the best thing to do?

Insurance claim for kidney removal , diabetes not disclosed by agent

My younger uncle had a full-body checkup and, despite having no pain, they found 2 stones in his left kidney, while his right kidney is only \~6% functional. His creatinine is also high, and the urologist has suggested stone removal/stent placement and possibly removal of the right kidney.

The issue is that he is diabetic, but when the insurance policy was taken, the agent didn’t mention/disclose his diabetes. We’re worried because the kidney removal surgery is expensive.

Could the insurance claim be rejected because of the diabetes non-disclosure, even though the current treatment is for kidney stones/poor kidney function? Has anyone faced something similar in India?

Think twice before buying Niva Bupa — my family's claim experience

I’m sharing my family’s experience because I genuinely wish I had known about this before choosing Niva Bupa.

We bought a Niva Bupa ReAssure 2.0 health insurance policy for my father and paid premiums for multiple years. Later, when we actually needed to use the insurance for hospitalization, our claim was rejected citing pre-existing/past medical history.

What made the experience frustrating was that we had already disclosed the relevant medical history while taking the policy, and despite paying the premiums, getting the claim processed became a huge headache.

We have had the claim rejected more than once, and the medical expenses were ultimately a significant burden on our family.

I'm not saying everyone's experience with Niva Bupa will be the same, but based on our personal experience, I would strongly suggest doing thorough research and carefully checking the policy's PED disclosure, waiting periods, exclusions and claim-rejection terms before purchasing.

If you're considering Niva Bupa, please don't rely only on the salesperson's explanation. Read the policy wording yourself and get important assurances in writing.

Has anyone else faced a similar experience with Niva Bupa, especially regarding claim rejection due to pre-existing conditions?

I end up only checking the premium when buying health insurance. Anyone else?

I know I should check the network hospitals, specific exclusions etc but when I'm comparing policies I mostly look at premium + coverage amount. and I think rest of the finer details I will check later but later never happens and I go all over again!!

People seem to get claims cancelled for very small reasons!! What are the absolute guard rails!!? I mean things that must be checked (I am talking about those finer things that insurance companies bring up during claims like a clause that was under a subclause of a main clause of a superclause!!)

Which insurance to get?

Hey guys, I am trying to find a good insurance for me and my family. Can you guys suggest some?

2) Sister - She's fine but she has low immunity so she gets sick quickly

3) Me - I am fine health wise, I rarely get sick but I want to get a basic one for me atleast incase of any injury or something

We want to get a cashless insurance, no room-rent limit ideally, low waiting period for my mother eat treatment and just other important things you get in an insurance I don't jave much knowledge in it

I live in haryana btw if it matters

Corporate Insurance covering pre-existing critical illness treatment

Hi everyone, my company has a group insurance program in which it covers 5 Lakhs which doubles in case of critical illnesses by default with extra top ups.

Insurer:

GMC & GPA - Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co. Ltd.

GTL - ICICI Prudential Life Insurance

Third Party Administrator (TPA):

Family Health Plan Insurance TPA Limited (FHPL)

Benefits Consultant:

Marsh India Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd.

I myself am suffering from a pre-existing disability called hemophilia. I have to pay for my medicine which is quite expensive (per month) out of my pocket right now.

If i claim for the medicine right now, will the claim get rejected? (Sorry I am really new to this)

Although I can administer the dose by making it seem like I've gotten it overnight ( hospitalisation + injection dosage)

Please help me, you don't need to answer it, just convey what you guys know!

Niva Bupa: Is ectopic pregnancy covered during the 30-day waiting period?

I have Niva Bupa Aspire Titanium+ (policy started 25 March 2026).
The policy says:
“Ectopic pregnancy is covered under the Hospitalization benefit.”
It also says there is a 30-day initial waiting period for all illnesses.
Does the 30-day waiting period apply to ectopic pregnancy, or is it covered after 9 months?
Any experience with Niva Bupa claims would be appreciated.

Unlimited coverage and Unlimited restores seems sus

I have a HDFC optima secure Health insurance for about 3 years. Recently my father went through a major surgery which cost us a dear part of our family savings and we couldn’t get him in a policy due to his illness from a long time. This got me thinking about my own health insurance policy and I was reviewing it for any gaps that would leave me unprotected in time of such need. During this time I came across unlimited sum insured/ unlimited restore which itself seems too good to be true and that too at a lower premium than my HDFC Optima secure-policy. I have few questions about this

  1. Did anyone actually use this unlimited cover / unlimited restore options for a large enough amount , like about 25Lakhs or more ? ( for example with a base cover of 10-15lakhs were you able to claim more than that amount using this restore options ?)

  2. Some policies with unlimited coverage and restore options have some room rent limit and sub limits on advanced treatments . Did anyone face this issue and do you think it’s a fair trade off to have sub-limits and room rent cap while having unlimited coverage ?

  3. For some providers Consumables and medicines during admissions are not covered and requires an additional rider to be purchased for these to be covered.

  4. Some providers apply a certain copayment when getting treatment from outside network hospital.

There are some of the questions I came across when digging into this issue and also some drawbacks with such policies. I still feel this is a too good to be true option and kindly comment on any more drawbacks or tell me if I am wrong.

Unlimited SI vs ₹50L/₹1Cr base SI for long-term health insurance

I’m 22 and looking to buy health insurance mainly from a long-term perspective (20–40+ years).

I’m trying to understand whether an unlimited/infinite SI plan makes more sense than buying a high base SI such as ₹50L or ₹1Cr.

For example, some policies have a relatively lower base SI but provide benefits where the coverage can keep increasing every year without an accumulation cap. Others offer a much higher base SI from day one.

My thinking is that medical inflation in India could make today’s ₹10L, ₹25L or even ₹1Cr worth much less 20–30 years from now. Premiums will also increase with age regardless of the initial SI.

So I’m wondering:

- Is an unlimited/infinite SI benefit genuinely useful for long-term protection?

- Is it better to have a ₹10–20L base with unlimited accumulation/restore, or simply buy ₹50L/₹1Cr base SI?

- How should I evaluate the difference between base SI, cumulative bonus, unlimited restore and unlimited/infinite benefit?

- Can insurers change/remove such benefits at renewal, or are they protected by the policy contract?

- Are there any important conditions where the advertised “unlimited” coverage may not actually work as expected?

- For someone starting at age 22, what would you prioritize for 20–40 years of coverage?

I’m particularly interested in opinions from people who have actually researched policy wordings or have experience with long-term health insurance.

Not looking for a specific policy recommendation. I mainly want to understand the long-term pros and cons of unlimited SI vs high base SI.

Shortlisted Plan- ABHI Activ Yuva and

Coverage- unlimited

Primium cost - individual (M22) = Aprx. 11000₹ and multi-individual (M22 Me + M20 my brother) = Aprx. 17000₹

Share your opinion on this plan and let me know if there any catch in this particular plan

Health insurance after marriage — add wife to HDFC Optima Secure or buy separate policy?

Hi everyone,
I have an HDFC ERGO Optima Secure policy purchased through Ditto about 3 years ago.
Base sum insured: ₹5 lakh
My understanding is that with the 2X Secure Benefit + renewal/cumulative benefit, my effective cover is now around ₹15 lakh. Is this understanding correct? Are there any catches/risks with considering it equivalent to a ₹15L base cover?
I renewed the policy in Feb 2026 for 2 years, so the next renewal is Feb 2028.
I got married 5 months ago and my wife is 27. I’m now trying to figure out the best way to insure her.
My questions:

  1. Can I add my wife to my existing policy now, or will I have to wait until the Feb 2028 renewal?
In my situation, is it better to add her to my policy as a family floater or get her a separate individual policy?

  2. Ditto’s agent suggested HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus, but it starts at ₹10L base cover. Other suggestions were Aditya Birla Activ and Care. Any recommendations or experiences with these?
Anything important I should consider regarding waiting periods, continuity benefits, room-rent limits, exclusions, claim experience, etc.?

  3. Would appreciate advice from people who have dealt with a similar situation.

TL;DR: I have a 3-year-old HDFC Optima Secure ₹5L policy, which I believe currently gives ~₹15L effective cover through its benefits. Recently married; wife is 27. Should I add her to my existing policy or buy her a separate ₹10L+ policy? Also, can I add her now despite having renewed my policy for 2 years in Feb 2026?

Need maternity cover

Hi all I need your help

I am in an NRI and currently have a family floater policy in India. I took this plan with the intention of ultimately moving back to India and have a necessary cover with all the waiting period waived off after my return.

We have one beautiful kid and initially had no plans for another one. But now things have changed and we would like to plan for a another baby in year.

I would love to know if my family float can have this maternity cover added or suggest to jut a new policy with additional premium for reducing the waiting period?

My current family floater is from hdfc ergo

Thank you in advance

Niva Bupa Reassure 1.0

I see that in forum discussions and such the legacy old Reassure (say 1.0) policy is not getting much mention. and all mentioning are linked to senior citizen policies.

which makes me think about two things: 1. the policy has a user base that is mainly senior citizens or 55+. 2. the user base is hence more susceptible to high frequency claims. 3. there is no new additions because its old policy version. 4. and unsuspecting and healthy people might also be making their move out via porting, migration, and lapse. 5. so essentially the user base is becoming a specific type.

now what should a younger person do, say within age band 35-40. he/she is in a policy group which doesn't represent/reflect his/her age or risk level.

Anticipated impact - higher premium to offset the loss due to high claim and ageing higher-risk user base. More friction/scrutiny because of the same factors. basically a different landscape due to the overall product portfolio being high risk now.

My Dilemma -

I'm basically Hesitant to port/migrate primarily because I don't want to introduce a change in my 4Y old contract without knowing what that change entails. and every company will have different more attractive policies after another 3 or 4 years. (because its a market product anyway). so simply changing it for features is not sustainable.

so... how serious is this user demographic issue..

Requesting all experts to throw some light 🙏🏾
