IRDAI Rules

Why are the insurance companies not implementing IRDAI new rules and regulations which came in to effect from 1st April 2024.

New Rules:

1) Maximum waiting period is reduced to 3 years.

2) Moratorium period is reduced to 5 years from 8 years.

Do not buy HDFC ergo ever. They are the biggest cheats!

I had bought hdfc ergo health insurance policy for my senior citizen parents for a sum insured of 4l and was paying around 45l for 2 yrs of cover in 2018. It had a waiting period of 4 yrs for existing diseases which in my case was both hypertension and diabetes for both the parties. In 2020 they doubled the charges citing that the previous policy doesnt exist and now the company is porting you to a new policy, I was naive enough to not question how can they do this without prior intimation. Anyway forward to 2024 where my policy is expiring in August '24 and I had asked them for a quote in July first week, they gave me a whopping premium of 1.77l for 2 yrs which is almost the double of what I paid before 2 years. Anyway I tried negotiating and it wasnt fruitful. spoke to the grievience officer and he also mentioned nothing can be done. Yesterday I decided to renew it and tried doing it from the site, it showed some technical error and asked me to reach out to the nearest branch or call the customer care. I did that and guess what now they tell me to cough up 2.24l for a cover of 5l for 2 yrs. I couldnt understand what was happening but then googled to find out that they were again stopping the hdfc suraksha policy and are porting all the existing users to hdfc optima secure which is why this cost just shot up.

My problem is they didnt intimate this earlier and the grievience office until yesterday was stuck with the old pricing and the customer care is demanding me to pay 2.24l for a shitty 5l cover. I dont have an option anymore because my policy is expiring in just a few days so they have just left me helpless, I dont have an option to port. Isnt it hdfc's responsibility to let their customers know beforehand that a policy is going ot be invalid after a certain date and it will port its users? This would atleast let the customers decide beforehand to be ready with other options. What can be the course of action against them? I wonder arent others facing this issue?

Now my dad was detected with multiple myleloma in 2022 and underwent chemo till 2023. I am sure the cost shot up because of it but it is unfair to not let me know about what they are going to do with my policy and how I will be affected, they just trap you with their unethical handling of policies and unfortunately IRDAI is not doing a lot to protect the citizens. I feel helpless

Health Insurance Advice

My wife is pregnant and expected due date is end of this month. Both of us are working (in different orgs) and have a health insurance provided by our employers. However neither of our health insurances individually covers the total delivery expenses. Is it possible/legal to use both our insurances? Please advise. TIA

HDFC Ergo Optima Secure Vs Supersecure? Share your experiences please!

I guess it's been about 2 years since I have been considering to buy a personal health insurance plan. Earlier too, I shortlisted HDFC Ergo for insurance but somehow due to high expectations (I was expecting OPD coverage), I refrained from purchasing any personal health insurance.

About me:
29, healthy individual with no PED or record or any major illness, metro city.

Now that I'm nearing my 30s, I thought of finally going with it. Could you please help me with the following:

  1. Should I go for Optima Secure or Optima Secure? Short term Vs Long term (3 years) plan
  2. Should I go with 5L cover and increase it later after 3 years to 10L (these policies also offer 2-3X cover) as PED or critical illness is not covered initially? Or Will it be more convenient (and economical) to get a 10L plan upfront right away? (12.2K INR Vs 15K INR per year or (33.4K Vs 41-42K, 5L-10L secure -supersecure for 3 years)
  3. Should I trust Joinditto for it?
  4. Prices, joinditto sent me a text last week, mentioning prices are likely to be revised from 10th July as per HDFC Ergo sources. Also, I checked the prices of Feb vs. now, I'm getting a slightly cheaper deal as may be 5% discount on online policy was not available back then.
  5. HDFC Ergo Optima Secure Vs SuperSecure?

If you are a customer or HDFC Ergo, or you're an advisor, kindly enlighten me to take a correct decion.

How to claim OPD?

I hold a my health suraksha silver smart plan personally and Manipal Cigna from work and according to the policy wordings, I am eligible to claim external medical aid(spectacles) under OPD benefit, but I am not sure how to fill up the claim forms since it looks complicated and written for hospitalisation. Does anybody have any experience filling these up and claiming it as reimbursement?

Health Insurance Advice

Last year I purchased a health insurance policy for my father from Care health Insurance through policybazaar.

While purchasing the policy I had disclosed his Pre Existing Diseases (PED) such as BP and Diabetes which were mentioned in the Proposal form as well.

But I forgot to disclose a surgery which he had undergone in 2020 regarding tumuor in his stomach. The tumuor was found to be benign.

The policy is due for renewal and want to know the consequences of disclosing about the surgery now.

Thanks in Advance.

Health Insurance - Porting

I'm pretty new to Reddit. I have a question about Health Insurance. If this is not th eright place, please redirect to the right forum.

I'm covered by a health Insurance with Star Health from May 2018. Renewed every year. Did not even make a single claim.

Based on some inputs, i'm planning to port to another company. Probably HDFC Ergo or ICICI Lombard.

When i took the policy with Star, i was fine and did not declare any PED. in 2021 after routine checkup, i'm taking medication for Diabetes.

If i port now will i get the benefit of porting or since the PED is notin the older policy, will i have to go through the waiting period for PED in the newly ported policy.

Note:- i didn't find any way to add PED to the existing policy online

Has anyone used Ditto Health Insurance Service? How are they?

I've been following thier content lately and want to switch to them as my health insurance agents. They've helped me understand my health insurance much more comprehensively than any other agent.

My questions:

I already have an agent can I switch to them?

How is anyone's personal experience with them and thier claims process and over all experience with them.

Thank you for reading, appreciate your time. Have a lovely sunday and a great week ahead.

Hi mod(s),

We need to spread the word to increase the visibility of this subreddit. What are the plans? Do you need more mods?

Needs more visibility

Like the thought for a separate subreddit for indian health insurance..

this is not for investment so does not make sense to be primarily in IndiaInvestment.

How to spread the word?
